2 Cent Piece: Small Motto vs Large Motto 0

Is there any distinct differences between the "Trust" in the small motto and large motto? The 2 Cent is a 1864.

As the name implies the size of the letters in the motto are the difference. Here is a pic of the two side by side.

A different font was used. Notice that in addition to size, the large letters are thinner with greater distinction between thin and wide portions of each character. Also, the baseline for the large letters is more uniform (although still crooked) than the small letter version. There are many other differences in design detail, but since of the motto is the easiest to see.

The squat letters of the Small Motto are characteristic of Chief Engraver James B. Longacre's work, while the Large Motto font is typical of Assistant Engraver Anthony Paquet's coins and medals.

Paquet might have made a set of 2-cent punches for the Mint. He made other sets at different times.
