Too little, too late. As Edison said, [Success] is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration. If my wife allows me to attend NYINC, I'll go but I would no sooner switch to errors and varieties than you would  -- or  🐓 🐓 🐓

I just hope this year’s COVID stuff doesn’t ruin what has been a great show. You know it’s at 48th St. and Lexington, right?

Has been associated with Fred, or is he “the next man up”?

@Ratzie33 probably has some practical experience, but is too young to have acquired the "institutional knowledge" required to hold his own.  Judging by the @The Penny Lady's portfolio from the Baltimore show, I would guess that someone will be a part of the older cohort.  🐓

In the future, I expect Mike Byers to be "The Man" as far as errors are concerned.

I have to admit, I had to look Byers up....this is the first I've heard of him, but then I'm not interested in errors.  I looked over his website and he certainly has a ton of errors for sale and definitely has a lot of knowledge in the field.  You could be right about this, Bob.  Byers is a good candidate to be a successor to Weinberg.

My understanding is it was at the Waldorf-Astoria, 301 Park Ave. from 2001-2017, then switched to the Grand Hyatt, 109 East 42nd Street (now closed due to COVID-19 concerns) and has now been scheduled for the Intercontinental Barclay, 111 East 48th Street @ Lex, a hop, skip and a jump from the Waldorf. If I find something, it will absolutely, positively be my last buy. Period. 😉

Neither Mike nor Charmy look like they are as error specific as Fred has been. His cases were always an education.

The Penny Lady isn't an error/variety specialist.

The 2 dealer names that I've seen most often over the last 5-10 years are Mike Byers (I believe he is also associated with the Mint Error News), and Jon Sullivan.  It was recently announced that Jon is going to take Fred's spot as the Primary error coin consultant/authenticator for PCGS.

I'm not sure if NGC uses a consultant, or if it's all done in house.  David Lange is a well respected researcher but I don't know if his expertise includes errors and varieties (FWIW, he may be very knowledgeable, but I'm not aware of it)

Note:  My point, lacking clarification, requires restatement.

As near as I can tell, she was one of the few people on site in Jurassic Park.  What's needed is a young, up-and-comer who knows his stuff and has rarely been successfully challenged.

That is actually what I was referring to in my earlier post. I expected that job to go to Byers, with my second guess being Mike Diamond (Error-ref.com). Sullivan is a consulting editor on the error-ref site, but he has been a full-time dealer for less than 10 years. But, hey, if he knows his stuff, and PCGS has confidence in his ability, then his number of years as a dealer doesn't matter.
