RJoe
Good afternoon. This coin looked odd to me when I received it in change a few minutes ago. I took these photo's in order to get a closer look. It appears to be struck through a handful of miscellaneous hardware. Nuts, bolts, screws etc. The close up is at the base of the bust but if you look closely, you will find hardware items all over both front and back. I am curious as to how this may have occurred. Could the equipment have disinterested and caused this or did a mint employee toss a handful of junk into the works? I know it's just speculation but thought those of you with experience may have a different perspective. Also, would it be possible to remove the surface goo without technically cleaning it? And I am also trying to determine if it was struck more than once. Lastly, would I describe it as struck though hardware? You thoughts are welcome and appreciated! Coinbuf
I do not see any evidence of any strike thru in your photos. It looks like a coin that has been damaged through use nothing more. James Zyskowski
Just Bob
I don't think it was struck through anything. It looks to me like it's just post mint damaged. The distance between the faces of the dies is small enough that, had there been a nut, bolt, or screw in there, it would have made a much deeper impression than shows on your coin. I'm with Bob.....definitely PMD. A strike-through is typically much deeper than what your coin is showing. James Zyskowski

Jason Abshier
If anyone finds any sideway RPM “W” mintmark quarter stamped over P or D mintmark quarters those were made by me too . Very very rare I only made 3 of them with a special W punch tool and ball peen hammer . I got frustrated I couldn’t find any “W” quarters so I made my own and plan on sending them into grading to get my own variety for them . I left them on my night stand one day but my wife used them in a vending machine never gotten around to making some more RPM “w” quarters Mohawk and James Zyskowski 1
RJoe
Thanks guys. That explains it. So the images are there, just applied by someone? Wanted to make sure I wasn't just seeing things. I knew the coin was to beat up to be worth anything but my curiosity made me want to know how they got there. Just found another in fact. Thanks again James Zyskowski
James Zyskowski
I have never found a W quarter in the wild 😝. I’ve got people in shops looking no luck. I finally won a first week of discovery at auction so I got one but I might be interested in buying one of those W’s special issue 😉

Modwriter
Save it for the next time you visit Disneyland or an amusement park and put it in one of those coin roller machines that elongates cents. Makes for a nice collectible exonumia souvenir. James Zyskowski

There's a couple I'll keep (especially the one my Dad found and gave to me and one other one with special meaning) but I may sell the other ones I found soon. There are just too many Faustina the Younger coins out there and I have to fund them somehow!! James Zyskowski
