Just actually noticed; why does the "Y" on obverse almost look like an "X"? Trick of the light, out of focus, or just MD

I would say just the light playing tricks on your eyes. I see what you are saying though.

I think it's just the illusion of the mirror finish and the way the light is hitting it.

I agree. At first glance, it appears that it could be an "x", but it is a "y". I too think it's the lighting. Does it to me all the time.
