North Dakota Quarter

7 posts in this topic

Okay, I'm not a collector of US coins so forgive me if this is a stupid enquiry.

I received this North Dakota quarter in change. It looks like the some of the nickel cladding has not been applied properly. I have no idea if this is common, if it is interesting, if the coin is a keeper, etc. Would appreciate any comments from those who know more than me.

It looks like the coin has acquired some odd and colorful toning. The outer layers of these coins are mostly copper with a little nickel. I thing the ratio is 88% copper and 12% nickel. The mixture of the metals probably has nothing to do with the color of this piece.
