Jefferson Nickel Score Discrepancy

This post is to call out a discrepancy to NGC in the registry points for 5FS Jefferson Nickels. I'm only looking at two date and mintmark examples so these could be outliers but serve to show that adjustments need to be made. Either the points awarded to '58-D Jefferson's are far too generous, the points awarded to '56 Jefferson are too stingy, or the more reasonable amount is somewhere in the middle.

 

Below are the population and associated scores for the different grades and strike designations...

 

1956 Jefferson

Population & Registry Score

MS65 - 40 & 1

MS65 5FS - 43 & 12

MS66 - 218 & 3

MS66 5FS - 58 & 45

MS67 - 268 & 81

MS67 5FS - 3 & 237

Total 5 FS: @ MS65 and higher:104

 

1958-D Jefferson

Population & Registry Score

MS65 - 131 & 102

MS65 5FS - 72 & 123

MS66 - 145 $ 159

MS66 5FS - 133 & 201

MS67 - 17 & 1013

MS67 5FS - 21 & 1138

Total 5 FS: @ MS65 and higher: 226
