is there a defining invoice number on Appalachian Hoard coins ? I am aware of the 314XXX toned Peace $ hoard but no one ever mentions the associated numbers with the Appalachian Hoard toned War Nickels. Thanks in advance...

The appalachians will reside in generation 8 NGC holders unless they have been reholdered. The Bingham coins are examples of reholdered appalachians. The certification numbers are:

291239-xxx

291240-xxx

291279-xxx

291281-xxx

Thank you Lehigh... do the cert numbers represent which are more desirable ?

For example are the 291239-xxx coins better/nicer/prettier than say the 291279-xxx coins - or are they all pretty much the same ?

I found a Bingham coin (291281-xxx) up for sale on GreatToning thats pretty nice. But I dont know how it compares to other examples. I have only see a couple here and there.

and finally is there a range that these sell for ?

So this is definitely NOT a AH nickel ?

Yes one submission was superior and two submission were sub par compared to the other two. But i don't think I need to be specific with cert numbers because I'm sure you already know the answer!

Have any of these crossed to PCGS?

Thomas Bush is the only one I know of that had success crossing one. Since then there has been many failed attempts.

Wait for dark to fall and I'm sure Paul will show up and provide the certs and reflect what I have stated above! :-)

Oh, so it was tried. I didn't even know that, really.

Tell you where I think these need to go. I think they need to go to SecurePlus. Tom's didn't pass at that tier, did it? Do you know?

Do you think he crossed or cracked and sent in for grading?

Who pissed in your cornflakes ? Your attempts at trolling are subpar by the way. Just better to put me on ignore... and let it be. Go about your life. Thank you.

He got it through long ago when these first came out. I dont believe he cracked it. Initially these coins were accepted in the marketplace. Later the grumbles of being AT arose and I believe that's why they can't cross now. Also he has no proof Hus coin was from the App hoard when it comes time to sell. Of course, good pics in both holders should do the trick but concrete evidence is in the cert number.

These were out before SecurePlus. I think I remember them around 2008/9. I'm sure you'd know more precisely than I. Anyway, with the controversy still somewhat simmering, I'm kind of surprised nobody thought to submit one of these to SecurePlus.

It may seem as if just yesterday these came about but it was actually sept of 2000.

Wow, that does surprise me. Still, that's even worse. With all the fanaticism over there on cracking out of NGC one would think more of these would have made it over there in 14 years.

I know what we ought to do. Let's nominate somebody to send one of theirs over there, to their SecurePlus. That way we'll get some forensic workup on the AT/NT controversy still plaguing these. I nominate Lehigh for that, as he has a lot of these, he won't miss one. Plus, if it passes, he'll have a captive market for it over there!

What do you say, Lehigh? Are you all in?

The sniffer will not necessarily alert on all AT, although depending on chemicals (if a chemical is used) it might. The sniffer is much more useful for puttied gold than toned coins IMO. I would encourage you to read up on the underlying chemical spectroscopy method used and its limitations. It wouldn't rule out the possibility of AT definitively.
