Collectors Corner....Good, Bad, or Just another portal?

10 posts in this topic

Has anyone had experience with the Collectors Corner website?

To me it appears an aggregation of the larger auction resources...HA, GC, and SB plus and number of small retailers.

I can see this as beneficial when looking for a specific, but hard to find coin. Overall, has anyone bought through them, and what were your experiences?

I have used it at shows to locate coins that were a certain dealer's stock. It gave me a chance to see the coin in person without having to commit to having it mailed to me.

It is certainly not a panacea, but it's one more tool that is available to find things on my want list.

I've bought a few coins through there. But also have been told a few were no longer available and had already been sold at shows.

I signed up to start selling there last year and have sold a few coins through there, but not many. Pretty expensive at $99/month and I only really did it as they show my table number at Long Beach and which coins I have at the show when folks do searches. They have tablets located at various places around the show so people can search the bourse for coins, but I don't think too many people do it. Would be a great resource if all dealers at the show participated and had their complete inventory listed, but it's maybe 25% of the dealers and dealers on average maybe have half their inventory listed.

It's mostly redundant items from the larger dealer websites, although I DID find something nice there once that wasn't listed anywhere else, so it's worth a look.

Isn't it owned by Collectors Universe and used as a marketing tool to mainly sell some stuff they have graded by customers at full retail market prices?

For some items I collect, there isn't any one specialist or "go to dealer," so for me, it is a useful way to search the inventory of several dealers whose websites I might not not have otherwise visited. I like it.

Not enough dealer participation to be useful. Also, it adds another layer of "stuff" a dealer is expected to do, and likely not worth the extra work. Just thoughts....
