What is this?

Hello everyone. This is my first post here. I recently sent in my first five coins to be graded and I am nervous and excited about getting the grades. Today while looking through my change I found the Washington Quarter pictured here. It has numerous gold colored hexagon shaped metal flakes all over both sides and several places where die clashing can be seen. Is this an error of some type or is this someone's idea of a neat trick? Thanks for looking.

Welcome to the neighborhood, JP!

It looks to me like someone was bored out of their mind, and all they had available to pass the time was a quarter, a hammer and a set of allen wrenches.

yep allen set used as punch, the gold color is the copper core

post mint damage, but at least it is worth a quarter and you did not overspend on it.

I finally chipped a hexagon off with a loose razor blade. It is sequins glued onto the coin...lol, but as for the clashing I'm not sure, I would have to clean the coin and see if it's glue or not to be sure. I hate to clean a coin, but I want to know.
