EBAY

April 16th, mark it on your calendar. Ebay fees skyrocket for the non store folks. That's you and me, the little guy who wants to sell something now and then. They are slowly but surley putting us totally out of the picture. We/us little guys are what made Ebay in the first place.

Now the young mom can't sell her old baby clothes on ebay, cuz the fees will go up BBBBIIIIIGGGG TIME.

She like me have to mark things up so high now just to cover fees, and it will never sell cuz the super sellers will have the big advantage with all the discounts they get.

Just for jolleys I have a $50 gold eagle on ebay now. IF I sell it today my fees just to Ebay will be $109.00. After April 15th they will be $250.00. Don't believe me? Go to Ebay's fee calculator, it will tell you now fees and the new fees.

This is beyond &%@)!!! crapola.

I called Ebay cuz I am so steemed, but you get to talk to a nobody there, if they let you. You see our acct is in my wife's name and only she can talk to them, even tho I am the one who buys and sells on Ebay, and items bought are sent to our address in my name.

I don't know about paypal if there fees went up, but I am almost scared to log in and see. I don't know when they announced this increase, can't remember seeing it in my messages, sorry my wife's messages.

I AM FED UP TRYING TO SCRATCH ALITTLE EXTRA HERE AND THERE.

I only sell coins occasionally on E-Bay, but from here on out if I can't make any money then all my coins will be consigned to Great Collections. At least if your coin sells for more than $1000 you pay no sellers fee and the buyer pays 10%. Simple, no fuss and no worry. You get your coins to Great Collections then forget about them until the check shows up on your doorstep.

eBay's ever rising fees do make Great Collections look very good.

I bet eBay/PayPal fees go to a flat 15% within a few years. Heck they'll be 13% after this increase.

I thought about using e-bay a year ago but the hassle and fees along with un-trusted buyers was too much. I am happy with the coins that sell and trade right here in my sets as I don't need to jump through hoops and have never had a bad transaction with any member in over 5 years.

They are killing their own business. And in any event, as more and more sellers selling higher end materials leave, most of the collectors that conduct the most business by dollar value will also leave. The net result will be that eBay becomes an even bigger dumping ground for a lot of people's junk. Don't get me wrong; there are some nice coins on eBay, but there is still a lot of junk and this will get worse.

I think they are trying to catchup with Heritage and the other auction companies. I think they inch their way towards 17.5%. Greed will result in their own downfall. It isn't costing eBay any more money to list/host the auctions than it did a few years ago - if anything, bandwidth and server storage have become cheaper. I cannot think of any other motive for the price increase, and they are being so shortsighted. I would rather have 40% of the market volume and make X%, then have 20% o the volume and make X+2% commission rate.

I agree with everyone that eBay is no longer the place to buy (most) coins. Generic modern stuff (this year's PF-70 Silver Eagle, ect.), yes. The bulk dealers will have it, lots of it, and you can find a good price if you're patient. Other than that, it's a wasteland of overgraded, overpriced BINs with a few nice coins mixed in at random.

I haven't tried selling anything on eBay in years. They recently sent me a message offering ten "free" listings with no seller's fees. I might try that deal, but in general eBay selling is not for me. I have completed several transactions (buying, selling, and trading) on the boards here, all good for both parties, and hope to do more of that.

Teletrade has also gone rapidly downhill. Heritage still has nice stuff but they increased the buyer's fee to 17.5%. I have done more from the CS boards and directly from dealer's websites in the last year than from eBay, Teletrade and Heritage combined. Keeps fees out of the transaction; better deals for everyone.

You need to bump to the$16 / month basic store rate

If you sell 1 item like that a year, it will save you in fees.

I set up an ebay account a few months ago, before researching ebays and paypals fee base. I have never posted anything and will never post an item for sale. I do however buy most of my photograph gear from sellers with 99% or better feedback ratings. and have had no problems so far. (knock on wood)

Happy collecting and may God Bless

I did. I was also able to transfer my inventory and even my feedback in the background (auto magically). Storefront is free to 2500 items per month. Highest paid storefront is 20,000 items per month and I think that is $19.00

Final value fees are much better and there is no listing fee.
