Perhaps THE most beautifully toned Capped Bust Half I have ever seen....

192 posts in this topic

I bought the coin because:

1. I wanted it

2. I passed on it twice and regretted it

3. You never find bust halves toned like this that aren't MS and over $10k.

Congratulations. It's not a bad looking coin ;)

Did you win it Ankur?

Yes :)

I heard someone else bought it, yet you did not include a wink in your "yes" response.

According to heritage, I Definetly bought it.

Stay CAC'd my friends.

Congratulations Ankur!

You have little clout here bub. You're only a leader of misfit toys....get a grip!

PS: Nice one Ankur...see if you can get a better photo.

Yup. Waiting for an invoice.

Whats funny is that toned Morgans sell for multiples of guide all the time, and thats ok. When a Bust Half does, people blow a gasket.

Seriously. People need to chill out.

Stay CAC'd my friends.

I agree. I would rather have the Capped Bust Half Dollar than a monster common date Morgan for $3k-$5k in low grade.

With this said, I am not complaining about those either (even though I wouldn't buy them [the Morgans] at that price personally).

I buy toned Bust halves for multiples of guide all the time. I bought three of them this weekend alone! The fact is, though, that one went for many multiples - more than I've ever seen. I think the premiums that some Morgans go for are ridiculous (same with just about any Peace with a bit of color). Your new Bust Half is magnificent, I'm not going to deny that, but you paid a higher premium than I've ever seen for a circulated toned CBH. If you are happy with it, that's all that really matters in the end.

As I stated... I originally paid $3500 for it... Ankur is close to being right on the money... I regret selling it...

Apparently not the first time

It's a lovely coin I would have paid many $hundreds for. But it is just an AU R1 1831 with a pretty face.

For that price I'd rather have a rare variety.

Still, I'm glad Ankur won it. It's in the family.

$3700? STILL not the price of anything better than a late 90's Olds with 100,000 miles on it.

Relativity in motion.

(Do not misunderstand...as stated before, I know it's "a lot" for THAT BH in THAT grade. But $3700 to the average American is 3-4 months wages. Tops. It's not like it's the down payment for the house we're discussing. Well worth the price.)

It is not the first time someone paid many multiples for it. You did, and now I did. Thats all.

I have no issues with the coin or what you paid. However, where I think some folks are having a hard time is that the coin is circulated and circulated coins do not generally come with this type of toning.

:signfunny: I came close to pulling the trigger at $2000 but not at $3000 plus. I'll take MJ s advice and stay liquid.

But, seriously, Ankur, enjoy the recapture of a one of a kind CBH.

It's funny that you say that. Although I have never met you, you were the first person that I thought of when I saw this image. In fact, the picture looks exactly as I have imagined you! Maybe it's because of your icon picture. hm

In regards to my max on this one, I won it with a cut bid in the live session.
