One-Per-Date Morgan Dollar Set

7 posts in this topic

Recently acquired set of 28 MSDs

Took a big chance and won a 1878 - 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar Year Set at auction. Obviously pretty much a common set of dates/mint marks, but I am banking on the 1893, 1894, and 1895 run being at least AU. They will be deinitely be added to my registry set once they are graded.

Coins look great under magnification. Can't wait to send some in for grading. Kind of concerned about some of them being cleaned. Anybody tell me how to spot a cleaned coin?

Cool set. As for cleaning, there are really too many scenarios that involve cleaning to be able to pinpoint specifics. Most types end up with results such as, hairlines, polished look, lack of luster from dipping, etc....

`A very nice looking set. Put together by someone who was very particular in picking blast white high end pieces. No toners or DMPLs a beauty to look at. Blast white is my favorite flavor!!!

Thanks all...the more I look at the set, the more I am convinced that it was worth it. I took at stab at grading them; the 1893-1895 run has more wear than I would have liked. They look EF at best, however, there are more than a few that look like they could go MS63 and MS65. Anyway, the intent was to buy raw and get 'em graded in order to build a complete year-date set. I have the coins, now I need to get them graded. Wish me luck!
