Peace Dollar, Swapped Coin

32 posts in this topic

About 6 months or so ago, the following Peace Dollar sold:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/230763023130

Now, the following Peace Dollar is for sale:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/320996915670

Notice, they are the same exact holder, the blemishes match up on each, but a different coin.

TwinTurbo was the self-professed buyer in the first auction.

Aren't you sayng that the coin is swapped, not (as your thread title says) the holder?

Touche. Thread title updated.

This coin was purchased by a customer in a private sale and sent it back for resale. I know nothing about it being sold before. I can tell you the coin was difficult to image. If the coin was switched I know nothing about it.

The toning gives it away that is was switched. Or is it the quality of Great Toning's photo? Also, the first coins reverse appears to be stonger than the 2nd, swapped one.

JerseyKat..Can you clarify on your blemishes being the same remark? Do you mean on the coin or holder?

I dont believe it to be the same holder, look at the bottom RH corner and the crease across the coin, different IMO

After studying the pictures in the previous auction, It appears it is not the same coin. I have decided to stop the auction at this time and make other arrangements (perhaps send the coin in for grading or just sell it raw with no provenance). If it turns out to be a different holder I may relist.

Thank you Jerseycat for bringing this to my attention.

I do not feel it is the same holder, same model but different cardboard. Close locations on folds on both sides of dollar...

Look at the lettering around where the dollar is - the holes are not centered on either - GREATTONING pic shows the UN of UNCIRCULATED actually cut-off and touching coin ( or darn close)

fa9o2.jpg

the previously sold item had a gap at the bottom of the UN

$(KGrHqZHJDIE8gPZunK2BPZNgyfWCg~~60_57.JPG

so if someone changed the coin AND moved the hole, I guess they did good, anyway it is not like it was in a NGC MS65 holder and changed coins.....

:signfunny: you forgot to mention that someone made the color of the cardboard brighter.

Its a coincedence, plain and simple. Two entirely different coins in two seperate auctions. I am sure that this one example is not the only one in existance.

Look at the very long diagonal crack on the case. That's the most convincing.

I was basing my opinion on the long diagonal crack on the plastic case, as well as the creases in the middle of the cardboard insert on each side.

But based on the evidence provided by e1cnr, I have no choice but to retract my assertion that there was a swap, and offer a mea culpa to .

Hopefully it is understood that I was only trying to protect the bidders out there.

Your intentions were, no doubt, honorable. And I respect and appreciate your public retraction. If you have not already done so, I think that an apology is owed to the seller (and consignor, even if you don't know who he is).

new eBay rules say you get 1 free cancellation a year

then must pay fees at what high bid at time as if it sold there

listing fee lost - as well as 1 week time in turnover - payment of consigner delayed (assuming greattoning does 7 day start next Sunday)

Agree 100%. D I C K, I am sorry I jumped the gun and forced you to cancel the listing. I believe, in this case, that he was also the seller, but if I am wrong, I apologize to the unnamed seller as well.

I also will be willing to cover whatever costs were associated with cancelling the listing.

Just give everyone who posted in this thread a toned peace dollar and all will be forgotten.

Don't you know you're not allowed to defend yourself until we start accusing you of doing the AT job and then questioning several other of your coins? I think this 1878-84 Morgan Dollar looks suspicious. hm

I anticipate a call from Díck in 5..4...3.... lol

For the record, I would like to commend jerseycat10 for how he handled this and for that matter great toning as well.

If only all misunderstandings on the board were handled this equitably.

This was quite an amusing thread, I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it so much I actually made popcorn each night I sat down to read it!!!

But regardless I'm not the consignor for this coin.

As a matter of fact the savings and loan peace dollar I purchased came with a snap lock case that wasn't intact, I don't know if it broke during shipment or was broken when being sold, but regardless, I threw the 3 piece snap lock case and the savings/loan cardboard holder into the recycling. All I wanted was the coin and I was pleased with it. So that case is long gone.

This peace dollar however is fairly nice, the colors are pretty but the toning is overdone notice the black on the reverse. Not like it matters though cause jersey shores crack tells him otherwise.

So I want to thank you fellows for the laughs, especially Jerseyshore and crypto79

For Jerseyshore please for your family get help and go to rehab

For crypto79: I'm still ATS, never been banned but you and most on here are tools you are correct on that. Also since we've done deals in person and the last time I saw you at a show you had a little boy with you who was your son I assume. Anyways nice Internet muscles, we no longer shall do business.

Isn't it funny how people act online, most do there best to act like big bad asses.

When they really ain't shiatt

Enjoy your day
