How is the luster on that coin ? - from the photo I give it at least a solid Au 58 . It could grade as high as MS 63 . I like the look of the coin.

It's subdued as you would expect on a coin with a thick skin like this.

Doesn't the rub on the eagles wing top indicate wear of some sort? I'd go AU58 but could be off by a few grades.

You really cannot tell from the photo if that coin has rub - that look on the eagles wing is typical for even MS 63 coins. That is strike related. Check out the attached . The 1811 is Ms 63 the next two are Ms 62, the bottom one if Au 58 . If you did not know the grades would you think they were all AU 58 ?? There is sometimes a very fine line between AU 58 and MS 62 - 63.

Forgot to ask you Relic - where did you get this coin ?

Hi Mark, I purchased it from Black Mountain Coins for my ANACS photo certificate type set. They graded it AU50/50 back in the day.

There is sometimes a very fine line no difference at all between AU 58 and MS 62 - 63.

Fixed it for you. You have to be extremely careful buying AU-58 to MS-62 coins - they are often exactly identical and vary based upon whether or not the graders had the right kind of coffee that morning. While the difference is more pronounced than the MS-69 to MS-70 line, the chances of getting one or the other seems like it is often the same - a coin grading roulette.

Details on that coin look Au 58 , if the luster is really muted I can see Au 55 . Au 50 ?? Naaa. Would need to see it in hand - what do you think the grade is ??

I am the wet blanket today :( . An "AU details" holder wouldn't surprise me, with sharpness that looks like AU-58 to me.

I bought that in an old ANACS Au 58 holder. Sent it to PCGS in the holder and then had it certified by CAC. You should see it in hand !
