I'd guess 65 on the 79-S if the luster is all there and go along with the others on the 80-S, but I'm cringing at the sight of your fingertips on it.

Chris

PS. If you want to determine if the 80-S would get DPL, you can hold it perpendicular at the end of a ruler and see which hashmark (5", 6", 7" etc.) furthest from the coin is clearly readable.

my lamp is broken at the moment.

usually i use a lamp, the first pictures are with daylight and some higher ISO.

i borrowed me a ringlight today and checked it out with the 1880s.

A ring light, like sunlight, baths the entire coin in so much light that luster is disguised. I don't know why your photos appear to be a dull gray unless you have manipulated the photos in some way with software.

You need to use a couple light sources (incandescent bulbs are fine) positioned in such a way around the coin so that the light does not bounce directly into the camera lens.

those are nice coins

the 80-S sure has reflective fields

the grading services have specific guidelines for PL and DMPL

I think it is 6 inches and 12 inches

you may want to check VamWorld to see if you have any special VAMs
