Well I am really disappointed with my new purchase.

I bought a some what rare coin with only 5 coins graded at the ultra cameo level.

I bought the coin in auction from Teletrade and I was immediately disappointed.

The coin should not be in a ultra cameo holder and I don't even think the reverse

deserves the cameo designation.

The pictures from teletrade were pretty crapping.

What do you think I should do? Either way I am not keeping the coin!!

I'd return it to Teletrade. If you send it to NGC and they refuse to take it off your hands, your return privilege with Teletrade will have likely expired.

I didn't know this till know but it will cost $50 for the return handling fee and I lose

the shipping cost plus I have to ship the coin registered mail. It it will cost me $65

just to return the coin to teletrade.

Return Policy

LIMITED RETURN POLICY. Teletrade offers this return policy as a service to its client, however, Bidders who excessively return coins may result in having their bidder account canceled at Teletrade's sole discretion. The Bidder will be notified in writing with a warning prior to account being canceled. Subject to the terms contained herein, any Bidder may return any lot purchased for any reason by shipping the same to Teletrade by Registered Mail within seven (7) calendar days of Teletrade's shipment (evidenced by Bidder's postmark). Upon the expiration of seven (7) days from the date of Teletrade's shipment, all rights of return shall expire and no returns will be accepted. All rights of return will terminate and be void if (a) payment is not made when due, time being of the essence; (b) the returned coins are not housed in their original, sealed and unopened containers in the same condition as when shipped by Teletrade to Bidder; © payment by check does not clear on the first deposit; (d) payment by credit card is refused; (e) Bidder has had an opportunity, personally or through an agent, to view the coins; or (f) the coin is offered to the public for re-sale in any manner, whether by auction, online, at a coin show, at retail, or otherwise. In no event does Teletrade refund postage and handling charges, nor does it reimburse Bidders or Consignors for postage used to ship coins to Teletrade. A return handling fee will be deducted from any refund for a returned lot calculated as follows: Five Dollars ($5.00) plus five percent (5%) of winning bids equaling Two Hundred Dollars ($200.00) or less; Ten Dollars ($10.00) plus five percent (5%) of winning bids in amounts in excess of Two Hundred Dollars ($200.00). Teletrade does not maintain running accounts for Bidders. Therefore, refunds from previous auctions may not be applied toward the balance due on a current auction.

Send it back to TT and chalk it up to experience. Just as long as you can recoup MOST of your money, then you're still OK. We've all taken losses. You've gotta look at the big picture.

Send it back to TT. Once you have it gone you will be happy. Swallowing the $65 pill would be tough at first but it will be money well spent. You will forever know that coin is no longer your problem. Good luck!

Send it back to Teletrade. BUT....call TT and talk to Gil. He just may get that return fee waived....especially if you buy more than once a year. Gil is great, and if you explain the problem clearly and concisely AND precisely, and explain in a nice way that the images were a bit misleading, and it should probably be sent back to NGC for review...he'll do what he can (and he has the power to make that decision himself).

He's waived it for me in the past for the same reason (image making the coin look better than it really was) on more than one ocassion (I've only returned 2 coins in 6 years, and had the return fee waived on both). But, I bid on/win at least two auctions a month (some with multiple items) with them, so he had no problem. I don't think they'll be sending you any discount codes in the near future, but it's nice to have that fee waived.

So, I voted 'return to Teletrade'......but call TT and ask for Gil....discuss it honestly with him...you have a 50/50 chance at worst, and I'd wager Gil would waive it, if, like I say, you use them more than once in a blue moon and aren't a 'returnaholic', and put your cards on the table.

Those 'returnaholics' are responsible for TT's return fee being, what I personally feel is, high.

I have the large return fees, but if you are that unhappy, send it back. Others will see what it sold for previously and it will finally find it's way into someone's hands at a price they are happy with.

Sounds like the best advice given so far.

It depends. If TT had a text description confirming the greatness of the coin, and their description was deceptive, then they should get the return.

But if they basically stated nothing and simply showed the image, then you got what you paid for - a coin in an NGC holder graded XX. Thus, your disagreement is with NGC, not TT.

I for one do not like TeleTrade's return policy, but it's about par for the course for auction companies. They do not want the hassles of dealing with customer returns, period. They'd rather collect the profits and be done with it.

I would call TT first. Explain the situation. If you get positive feedback, send it to them. If you get a poor response, then call NGC and see what they say. Pick your best option. Think James response is right on the money.

In either event, I would not keep the coins even if it means selling at a loss. Unappreciated coins are seldom looked at, never shared or discussed.

Good luck

Chet

The TT pictures make it look like it has strong cameo..

It also appears to have significant breaks in the cameo on the obverse.

Agree. This is a no-brainer.

Even "World Class?" graders make mistakes. A sight unseen bid is just asking for trouble if it is the primary method of buying coins for what one hopes is a "Nice" collection. :)

Time to eat some crow and move on. We've all been there at some point in "The Coin Collecting Experience. :)

Not True, I have always sent back coins that were different from the photo's on Teletrade by priority mail @ $5 with insurance, so there is a option. Also.. Call them and tell them your issue and they will gladly help you in this case. George

Send it back and be done with it. In the end it will be your cheapest means of recourse and it will be soon forgotten. Don't drag it out .Chalk it up to the price of doing business sight unseen. It happens.MJ

The cheapest solution is to return the coin to NGC. At worst you'll pay $25 for return shipping by registered mail. You could also use a cheaper method to send the coin to NGC. You could probably get away with $40. If you are correct about the cameo designation, then this seems like the most viable option.

Auctions are not approval sales. If you are that fussy, buy such material through a specialist dealer such as Rick Tomaska.

If you don't like the coin, send it back to Teletrade and take your lumps as a cost of education. If NGC decides the designation is correct, it will be too late to return it to Teletrade.

The best used cars are in showrooms priced at full retail.

The worst are sold off at auto auctions.

Do not expect to find PLUS or STAR or STICKER quality coins at bargain prices in auctions.

Neither the original poster nor anyone else posting to this thread has said anything about expecting bargain prices in auction.

Just in case you were wondering I paid over full retail for the coin.

Both of your post make no sense. I have been buying at auctions for over 3 years and this is the first coin that I have not wanted to keep!!

I am sorry I buy the coin and not the holder but in this case the holder and the coin do not match. I would never ever buy from Rick!!

I find that the best coins, comics ect... are found through major auction houses excluding ebay. I always buy the item, not the label. I never purchase anything without nice scans. If by chance I end up with something I am not happy with, I return it and move on. Also, I rarely, if ever purchase something that doesn't come with a return option.
