Hi GAW. I posted your images a few post back. They now show in the thread. Hope that's ok. If possible you need a closeup of just the date. Really can't zoom in enough to tell much.

It is definitely NOT the 1853-O no arrows.

Start at the top left corner of the 5 and draw a line straight up. Note where that line crosses the folds of the drapery above it on his coin and on the real 1853-O no arrows. On his coin there are two heavy folds in the drapery that come together as a V with a flattened loop of drapery under them. The corner of the 5 on his coin is just about at the point of that V and under the center of that flattened oval. On the real 53-O no arrows the corner of the 5 is well right of the point of the V and to the right of the flattened oval.

Thanks Condor 101, Your explanation is the best that We've seen in more than 50 years. Many "experts" including some "experts" here, have looked at the coin both in person and picture and We have heard many explanations but none as convincing as yours.... Thank You...

"not even close to an 1853" How ridiculous is that ?. It it either is an 1853 or it isn't an 1853. "Close" only counts in hand grenades...lol.

It counts in horse shoes as well.

And nuclear weapons.

At least with a nuclear blast, there won't be any "leaners" everything is pretty much leveled.
