Man I Missed This One!

That is a scratch. Notice it is on both the high details and on the fields, but NOT on the fields close to the letters. If this was a die crack it would show in the fields and probably on the high areas of the letters and the crack being in the die would go all the way to the letters. It would not stop before it gets to a letter and then start again in the field on the other side. It is not a die scratch or die gouge because those would extend all the way to the edge of the letters, but would probably not show on the high areas of the letters.

But if something is scratching the coin, as it comes across the field whatever the object is encounters the letter before the point causing the scratch reaches the letter. This cause the object to lift up and the scratch stops before it reaches the letter. As it continues it scratches the high area of the letter. Then as it continues it drops off the letter but moves on slightly before it makes contact again with the field. So the scratch starts again a little way away from the letter on the other side. This is exactly what is showing on this coin.

If it is a scratch what ever made the scratch was moving right to left!

+1 looks like a scratch which has created what looks like raised metal as that is the channel of the scratch. Damaged and I believe it was made by a staple if we are throwing out guesses
