Some New Busties

16 posts in this topic

A couple of new Busts .

The 1808/7 was very difficult to photograph . The coin is dark but does have remaining luster. The picture of the 1822 makes the toning look a bit darker then it is. The toning mainly surrounds the peripherals of the coin, the photo makes it looks like it extends into the fields. It does but not to the extent of the picture.

The 1822 looks like it could be nice, but the 1808/7 has the look of a very cool coin. For quite a while I used an 1808/7 as my type coin for the CBHs because it was the first overdate in this series that is littered with such creatures.

The 1808/7 has a similar color and look as my 1818/7 Bust . This coin appeals to me as it does not appear to have been played with. The 1822 is nice but as you know it is most likely a dipper that toned over nicely. It is an attractive coin that has that look a lot of people like. I was happy with both coins when I received them today, the Heritage photos did not do either of these coins justice.

I was watching that 8/7 and thinking about getting it as a second. ;) Looks like a great coin!

Is the 1822 an ex-Meyer?

I tend to avoid coins like that unless I can see it in hand first. Problem I have is that when an old circulated bustie has only a thin or no toning layer, the hairlines/bagmarks become extremely visible and tend to distract me too much. This is not the case on every coin, just a risk I am not willing to take on just a picture.

I am not sure if the 1822 was a Meyer’s coin. The Heritage photo was not that great , their photo made the coin like it was full of hairlines from a cleaning . I have bought some good coins based on bad pictures in the past and figured that this was another one when I decided to bid. As for the 1808/7 it is a great looking Au50. I like those chocolate colored Busts.

The 1808/7 seems like on of the nicer pieces I've seen! The 1822, not so much, though it looks at least AU55.

Here is a better pic of the 1822 . I took this picture outside using natural light .
