Hey everybody...thanks

15 posts in this topic

Thanks, everyone here, for literally giving my life an extra something nice, a kinship for better or worse, learning about people, different collecting methods, different likes/dislikes and even vices. Hard working registry set people and hard working non registry set people. Over the years, quite a few good people left or disappeared. I still think about them. What great numismatists they were and how much fun it was to communicate with them.

And now; new people show up and watching them develop as numismatists is an incredibly nice thing to see, when you go back and reflect on it.

So thanks everyone for such a lovely time.

And just because I sold off 2/3 of my collection doesn't mean I've stopped collecting.

I'm just collecting differently, getting my feet wet in different waters.

Still looking for that perfect 1808 Bustie that's eluded me the entire time I've been collecting them.

And financially? Coins HAVE held their water. Much better than the stock market, and my gambling wins at the casino only helped even more.

My advice...look for the real bargains

Great coins at great prices

Maybe more people will be collecting Busties; they say theyr'e slowing down.

One of my pieces was had for one quarter what it was worth in the 'real' world, it's just that the spirits of Capped Bust Halves blessed one their nut cases (who fortunately happens to be a friend of mine on this board). So who knows what can happen out there!

I also want to send many thanks to all the visitors to my Bust Half Registry set, which although it contains some mighty remarkable coins right now, so many of them were sold that I will likely never get to where I was in it again. I never won any awards for it, though, I worked darn hard at trying to make it an exciting place to be. My reward was that my set became the third most viewed set in the entire NGC registry of US coins. And I'm real proud of that. I'm also proud of the fact that maybe, maybe indeed, people got excited about my set, learned something about how Busties were minted, how they can vary in their outward expression and how many stories they told. THIS is the set to collect, my friends, in any grade, it will be a great challenge.

Good Luck to everyone

and Thank YOU for giving me all that you have on this board.

Michael

I couldn't agree more Mike...I sold off 98% of my collection due to tough economic times and this is the 2nd time I have had to do so in 3 years but....

I am still active on the forums and will continue to be so due to the fine folks on here including yourself. I wish you the best of luck as you persue new avenues of collecting and life in general and I look forward to your continuing contributions to our little slice of the internet here :foryou:

I've always been lucky on double, double video poker. I am far, far ahead in winnings over the years. I hit a royal flush last year and some will remember when I won $7500 in Keno in 2005. But the whole key to winning is moderation and quit when you win. Never chase a jackpot.

Slots are great if you like to throw your money away, however I do like Video poker.

I am a Blackjack player , I play very conservative on $ 10 or $ 15 tables. I can play for hours as long as I am winning. I set tight stops for my losses. Once I lose $ 300 I am done for the day. As for winning, once I am up over $ 200 I take $ 100 off for each additional $ 100 in winnings. My best ever night was $ 480 , my worst ever – can you guess ? $ 300 , many times. After 2 years of playing I am up a huge $ 300 !!! I do this totally for fun between 1 and 3 times a month mostly at Mohegan.

This thread turned out much better than I had feared when I read the title...I had thought that you were perhaps taking a collecting or posting break.

Mike, it's certainly been a sincere pleasure to get to know you on the boards and I always appreciate the knowledge you imparted to me on bust halves. As for gambling, I play only roulette, I have my 2 numbers, put $5 on each for each spin and then just drink the night away! Surprisingly enough I hardly ever lose, mainly because if hey hit in quick succession I am off to the buffet!

I never thought for a second that Mike would put the boards or coins on hiatus. It's in his blood. (thumbs u
