QUESTION:

 

It’s 1965, and the cheque for supper is 11½ guineas. What is that in pounds, shillings and pence?

You're right, this is not so easy. I don't know if we're talking the same Guinea here that was not minted after 1813. If so, don't understand how it can be valued in 1965 unless in Gold value at $9.72 per 8.4g Guinea. Anyhow, just numbers to try with.
