1898 Proof Set - Finally Completed

25 posts in this topic

Some time ago, I started working on an

Anniversary Birthyear Collection for my

Grandmother.

Today, I landed the last coin needed to

complete this set, the 1898 Morgan in

PCGS PR 64 CAM.

Here are the images of the set - sorry,

they are all the sellers images:

Wow, Mike! There are some gorgeous coins there! Congratulations on putting together such a gorgeous set! (thumbs u :applause::golfclap:

I'm looking to put together an 1893 proof set (my maternal grandmother's birthyear), and I know how hard it is to find material with the "right" look.

Small world, Sky! My maternal grandmother was born in 1893 as well. I was fortunate to be able to attend her 100th birthday in Lincoln, NE. She passed in 1997.

Wonderful set, Mike. Congratulations! You know that I'm partial to Morgans, but I really like that half.

Wow! Nice set, Mike. How long did it take you to acquire those specimens?

I started in August, 2004 with the Quarter in PCGS PR 66 CAM

which I bought out of a Heritage auction.

Followed with the Nickel and the Dime both in PCGS PR 66

in May, 2005 - and again from Heritage.

The Half Dollar is out of a Superior auction from January, 2006,

and its in a PCGS PR 65 holder..

Then I upgraded the Cent from a PCGS PR 65 RB - which I still have -

with the newer PCGS 66 RB out of an Ebay auction in March, 2006.

The Morgan is the NEWP - and out of Heritage's Summer FUN auction

this week. Its in a PCGS 64 CAM holder.

Yes, I have every intention of having this set TrueViewed - but - not

until the Fall. I also have quite a few other things that need imaging

as well. Once those images are available, I'll repost this set.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I appreciate it very much.

Here's the holdered image of the Half - knowing Chris likes it so much:

Congrats! I know what a difficult undertaking something like this is -- I've been working on a 1905 set for a few years now (only missing the half). Again, congrats....Mike

Thanks for sharing. It looks like a great set. I thought the half looked like it was imaged by Stacks, but I see it was from Superior.

Congrats on completing the set.
