1972 S Double Struck Proof Quarter

had this little guy for a while, I thought id share. one of the rarer errors I have picked up.

I don't understand what they wrote. Why obverse?

the obverse is the only side of the coin that was double struck... the hammer die was rotating or moving between strikes... You can see the doubling clearly in "liberty", motto, date, and the back of Georges neck.

What is going on around the "2"?

I can see the ghostly things but the "2" looks really wierd to me.
