Name 5 coins you would just love to have, but are out of your arena so to speak

28 posts in this topic

I collect mainly bust halves, a few other things, expert in none, but a little more discriminatory and obsessed with busties...but there are some coins that I would just love to have...out of my venue

can you name 5 that have been popping into your head a lot???

me:

1. 1953 DCAM PROOF 67 Franklin Half

2. 1836 PROOF Half Cent, almost any grade but well mirrored throughout

3. $5 Bechtler gold - unmolested

4. A flowing hair 1/2 dollar in AU

5. unmolested $5 Capped Bust Gold any grade

of course, there are about 100 more that I'd like, but these are what first came into my mind

There are only two that immediatley come to mind and that I could not own because of finances and these are an original VF-EF, problem-free, attractive Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar and an original, non-dipped, high end octagonal Pan-Pac slug. All the other coins that I would love to own are simply pieces I either won't commit the money to or are pieces that I cannot find.

Here's my list in no particular order

- No problem Bechtler $1 gold

- Pan-Pac $2.50 in Choice MS-64 or 65.

- Pan Pac $50 gold octagonal

- 1794 silver dollar in VF (In my area sort of since I'm rarely a date collector, but out of my price range)

- 1933 FDR Inaugural medal. I know it’s a medal, but at least it’s metallic.

3,4) Ditto for a 1793 and 1796 half cent.

5) Any solid AU early Bust dollar.

If a feller could wish-these coins, while not in my main area of collection, would tickle me to own:

1794 Flowing Hair Half Dime in MS62 condition

1913 S TI Buffalo Nickel in MS66 condition

1913 S TII Buffalo Nickel in MS66 condition

1917 D T1 Standing Liberty Quarter in MS66 condition

1917 D TII Standing Liberty Quarter in MS66 condition

I will not likely ever own all of these coins but perhaps the nickels-and I would be cool with that.

Money is no object...

1) Columbia/Washing 1787 medal, any metal (about 6 each in silver, copper, and white metal, about half of each in museums)

2) New Jersey copper, variety M. 69-w (two known, obverse is crudely made and from horrendous die steel)

3) Willow Tree shilling, any variety

4) Templeton Reid $10, either variety

5) 1848 small date large cent counterfeit

My dreams are simply, really.

1. a US seated dollar that has the reverse filed down for a love token, and reads: "Bob & Roberta, more cushion for the pushin' 1889 "

2. a 1909-S VDB cent that has been flattened and has the Lord's Prayer stamped onto it

3. an MS70 Morgan dollar graded by NNC, NTC, or ACG

4. one of those purty naked mermaid coins from Palau, with the hologram on the obverse

5. a box of AT'd PCI graded bullion, so i could send them off to PCGS to be graded and bumped by a point!

Picture/thread

Since Morgan dollars are my favorites, I wish that I could afford all of the high-MS specimens that are commanding five- and six-digit prices.

I also wish I could find a 1901S Barber half in AU58 for Mike Hayes. :hi:

1. A 1933 Saint Gaudens Double Eagle (there has to be at least one more out there)

2. A 1964-D Peace Dollar--I am sure one exists, I just can't prove it!

3. An 1804 Bust Dollar--I like big silver coins and this one is nice!!

4. A Pan-Pac octogonal $50 gold piece--is this the only non-round coin issued by the US?

5. A $4 Stella golloid pattern--I saw one once and got me intrigued!

That's just my 2c which is not enough to even get me in the door to see any of these coins!!

Scott :hi:

Either Pan-Pac $50 in Gem unc.

Choice unc 1793 Chain cent.

Gobrecht dollar in gem proof.

Realistically speaking

1. Randall hoard cent with no obvioous carbon spot

2. Seated half dollar in MS65 with strong luster and original skin

3. DMPL or PL Morgan dollar in MS66 with no prints

4. Capped bust half dime in MS65 with pretty toning

5. Japanese Olympic 1000 yen silver with monster toning

But if I had (much) more money, then

1. 1796 or 1797 half in XF

2. Flowing hair dollar in AU

3. Pan-Pac $50(either round or octagonal)

4. Gem seated dollar

5. Gem Japanese 20yen gold from early Meiji era

An 1862 (P,S) $10 eagle, AU58 or better.

Here are five I would that I'd go right out and get if I won the lottery, (which I don't play, so I guess that ain't happening. lol:insane:lol):

1. 1793 Chain Cent in at least a fine grade. What type collector doen't want this coin??

2. Gobrecht Dollar, a proof 63 1836, the only year that has Christian Gobrecht's name in the coins design.

3. Any proof gold $20 piece with great cameo contrast, this coin would'nt fit my type set, but I don't care...

4. & 5. How about a couple more dollars? Like a 1795 mint state flowing hair dollar and a Small Eagle Draped Bust Dollar, make that one mint state too. Now I'm really dreaming! :cloud9:
