$5 NGC Gold Eagle question.

10 posts in this topic

I recently picked up a $5 Gold Eagle in an NGC holder labeled "Gem Uncirculated."

I bought it at melt and am just wondering how come it wasn't graded if it was encapsulated by NGC.

Well, that is interesting. So sorry I don't have an answer, but I'll check back to see if one of the many coin whiz-guys here can figure it out.

It sounds as though this was part of a special bulk submission. In cases such as this I believe the submitter and NGC agree in advance on the type of grading that will be written on the label.

You can submit some coins to NGC and request a minimum grade (say MS69 for these) and all the others that don't meet that grade can be slabbed as BU or Gem Bu or the like.

Or you can submit them with the request to slab them all as BU, etc.
