I found this in the back of the notebook that I use to record my purchases. It is presented just as I wrote it back in '86.

Mercury dimes

1878-CC Morgan dollar

1882-S Morgan dollar

1884-CC Morgan dollar

1964 Proof Kennedy Halves

Peace dollars (40% in 1986)

 

 

Well, how do you think the Coin World writers did?

I have no idea what they cost in '86 (shrug) G. Washington halves are the commems?

 

Ah, the 1982 commem half dollars. Why didn't I think of that?

 

They've remained stagnant (except in higher grades) for a long time.

It would be easier if you had listed the 86 prices for us. Right off the top of my head, I'd say you won some and you lost some.

Sorry, I didn't mean for the post to be misleading. When I asked how you thought they did, "they" referred to the Coin World writers, not the coins. The only ones I actually bought were the George Washington half and Statue of Liberty Half. They are worth less now than the original mint issue price (shrug)

 

Think I should edit the post to clarify?

Again, for investment purposes, coins would lag behind stocks or mutual funds during that same period. Imagine buying $4000 (the price of 5 1oz gold coins) in stock on a small software company called Microsoft. You would have been a millionaire by 2000.
