I thought they just added the charter number to the same line as the serial number, though I've never been expert in nationals.

Type 1 Notes had just a serial number. The Type 2 Notes the serial number was changed to begin AND end with the nearby Federal Reserve branch code and the Bank code number was added on the line with the serial number--the bank code being closer to the portrait.

the second type were issued from the federal reserve banks while the first were issued by the national banks. the second types had the letters a-l to denote the 12 federal reserve banks, whiel the first ones had numbers to indicate particular banks.

1) Type 2 notes have additional charter number printed with brown near the serial number of the note.

2) Type 1 is preceeding with a letter and ends with a letter; type 2 has not end letter

The type one notes had the charter number twice on the obverse.

The type two notes had the charter number four times on the face. Also the six note sheets were serial numbered differently.

Type 1 had Alpa prefix and suffix- suffix always A

Type 2 had only Alph prefix always A, no suffix

Second main feature:

Type 1 charter # was imprinted twice in black

Type 2 charter # imprinted four times- twice in black and twice in brown. The brown imprints were next to the serial number.

ANSWER:

2 answers:

a) The charter and serial numbers were both printed in brown on Type 2 notes compared to Type 1's which only had the serial number printed in brown.

b) Type 2 Nationals were printed in sequential order compared to Type 1 Nationals which were printed in block order (Ex: Type 2 - A000001, A000002, A000003). (Ex: Type 1 - A000001, B000001, C000001).
