I have tons of boxed proofs, sets, PNC's, note folders and other stuff that was sold in the last 10 years or so
Quick post, hope everyone here is doing well
I've stopped collecting anything new for a while, and I'm now beginning to sell a lot of stuff.
Feel free to check my sets, or contact me if you think I might have something you want.
Prices range from special carded 50c issues starting at $6 AUD, right up to my 1937 Proof Sovereign set currently on eBay for $20,000. I would accept less, and CS members get a further discount
PS I'm also considering selling a China F1 2004 Michael Schumacher helmet. I'd value it at $10k if not more, cost me thousands of course, but I was able to get it at this cost level : Schumacher > given to Personal Trainer > sold to Best friend > sold to me
Some would say it is priceless I have other signed stuff has well so not sure what I will do. Could just sell the lot, I'm still in two minds.
Coin stuff, I'm most keen to sell lots of mint issues, slabs, AusPost PNC's, a few world mint issues like NZ mint dollars.
I will keep some close to bullion valued stuff

    I have my grades
Separate shipping meant I should have been given my grades on 2 submissions. Lisa kindly gave them to me and will ship those coins back to me soon
    Super email customer service.
    1864 1/2 Sov got AU55, a very nice grade
1887M 1/2 Sov got AU58 as expected, a great grade
A 2008 Panda got MS67.. wow, messed up there. Giveaway time..
A 1999 Kookaburra I thought would be able to get MS69 got MS67.. giveaway time again !
2010 Kookaburras both got 69.. one of those will be sold
2001 Kookaburra got 69, into my MS69 registry set it goes
1993 and 1995 coin fair kangaroos (reeded&plain) both MS69, nice
    2010 Kangaroo MS70, cool
1994C Reeded & Plain Kangaroo to go and that set is complete, so far all MS69 with 3 MS70's
Kookaburra and gilt kookaburra sets pending. If I can't complete the set I'll bail out and sell my.. 12 or so MS70 Kookaburras.. and my 3 gilt beauties. No point if I can't complete it !

    Should I slab ! I feel I must..
I'm thinking I'll send my beautiful 150th Running of the Melbourne Cup gold plated 50c sets in for grading. 12 coins total yes 6 full sets. These are hot, 5000 mintage and I expect them to go up plenty more yet.
Why not, I mean how gorgeous are they !! see below. They are PROOFS with an obverse the same as the proof set, Queen Elizabeth II
So here's the plan.. send all 12 coins and ask for PF70 matched sets only. So if 5 of one coin grade 70 but only 4 of the other, I get back 2 sets in capsules, and 4 sets of PF70 (dreaming here that would be sensational, but the Royal Australian Mint do make top quality coins so its possible)
These gold plated babies are easily the best looking coin from Australia for ages. One portrays our great Champion of 1930 Phar Lap, the other the Melbourne Cup itself

Two 1911P half sovs ! one is probably XF40. The other should be AU something and will be going in my set. The other will have to be sold via the boards and or eBay
The 1897 S should cross to AU50. Hopefully even higher but no extra points with the system. So AU50 is good
The Benin coin is cool and I got imaging on all of these. I'll reply in this forum thread with the pics when I get them

Those PL coins must be VERY dark and reflective
One of mine looked the goods
Happy to be adding the MS70 to my registry soon. I guess the others will be sold, too many coins, not enough actual cash. Lots of my stuff has already been sold and more to go
  8. RareSov
    THREE UHR coins submitted
If ever I was a praying man, its now. My luck this week has been odd to say the least. Perhaps its been up and down.. but I digress..
A mystery bet for $1 which paid me $92 instead of $2200.. due to a stupid, unfair system by our small betting agency. When I say small, this betting agency spends millions in advertisements in the main newspaper, television.. millions on upgrading facilities.. millions more advertising when the Melbourne Cup comes out. These companies draw over 10% of every bet invested, and the pools ARE COMBINED on the same race.. just not for this particular bet type !
So a computer sends some numbers.. and ignores sending one set of numbers. That is the only difference going on !
All this income and technology behind the system but they do not solve a broken situation in their betting system where you can bet on a FIRST FOUR and get fair odds sometimes, and on other races the pool is not combined with the rest of Australia !?
Bet on long shot option, and if there is a tiny pool there will be ZERO chance of getting a big return. The TV telecast shows QLD, NSW and VIC dividends as over 2000 bucks, and you go collect less than a hundred. Talk about hurting a customer ! excitement followed by a nasty shock
Then I sell a $4000 coin ! talk about up and down swings !
Hope I'm not due for bad luck. I sent THREE UHR coins, two of which had darker fields, and one which had a beautiful early strike look to it. Very yellow, and could not see any imperfections.
PRAYING for MS70PL. It wont be long now. They are in Quality Control for a couple of days now hope they ship Friday !!
In other interesting activity, I am selling my last two Sir Edmund Hillary $1 PNC's that were 4000 mintage. Keeping ONE for my collection.. two can go. Someone asked me to relist them so I hope they buy both.
I guess in one way, you can just say my luck is UP UP UP I didn't LOSE money, and gambling is something I've learned to stay away from anyway
Wish me luck with my complaint ! they may even just pay me out the 2146 bucks difference and solve the issue. I did give them a suggestion in case of some issue they have (which seems impossible). Offload the bets to another agency. This is a common practice with bookmakers who offload bets to other bookmakers, or the TAB. And the computer is offloading (sharing pools) on every other race, and like I said pools on the same race.
    Crazy world

    The 2000 $1 with 10c obverse MULE
A classic decimal rarity in high demand.
Just before this coin was to appear in the single bible of Australian coins "Greg McDonald's Pocket guide to Australian coins and Banknotes" I decided to buy a couple of high grade mules
I got this one.. now sold it at great profit
Lesson for the day. PUBLIC awareness of an investment coin will push the price up far quicker than anything else.
I bought this coin for a reason, and it paid off
I have another.. which has a lovely center strike giving FULL double rim, in my signature set $1 oddities. It will be replacing the coin I sold :

    http://coins.www.collectors-society.com/usercontent/images/coinsigset_images/col-socphotos/2192253-002R.jpg
The buyer should be very happy with the original mint luster, decent strike and good surface condition of this coin. It is hard to argue with the MS grade but I advertised it as probably realistically AU58, It has toned and doesn't LOOK like an UNC $1 Australian coin - which are very bright and gold yellow ish.
    The material is Aluminium/Bronze

My only remaining mule is now in the set. Scans only available sorry. See below for the presentation which always gets a positive comment when people see it.
I'll try to photo it soon when I do a big photo session

A few of these seem super hard now. Time for me to buy some serious amount of coins and inspect them. I think I'm going to put out a wanted ad for kookaburras here in Australia, saying I want only rolls no single coins
If I offer to pay well, I might get some rolls of these dates
I suggest others who know bullion dealers do the same. The very difficult dates like 1990, 1994 and 2000 will be worth a serious premium. A few of us members need these coins.

    I don't think it will be MS70PL
    I hope to have MS70
I just sent 3 coins to NGC. I believe one is a dead set MS70
The other two have dark fields, one I think should make PL for sure ! looking forward to it. The other is a maybe.. but having read the post on the forum from NGC about these coins, I guess my other one is one of the "looks like PL but isn't quite"
It does have some reflectivity both sides. The other one is just better
I guess its better to be 70, ALMOST PL, than getting a second PL 69 !
70PL would be a dream come true. This very special coin release deserved to have a variety exist, and the 70PL is the holy grail.

    Buyers ?
So I go through the agony of finally deciding to part with some precious sovereigns
Keen buyer and I meet and talk a lot. There is a deal set to go down. I wait a couple of months, for him to sell some stuff and gather the funds.. including a month while the guy is away. As we nail out the final details, I tell him that PayPal transactions can be 1% for personal transfers, and would save (him) on fees
Next day buyer says things are too complicated and he spent the money on something else. Who knows what, after being so keen on this special coin.
Do I keep it or sell it, now I just don't know. Maybe I'll update when I don't feel as annoyed..
Now I'm slightly amused. I sent a total of 38 emails, received 48 ! I was willing to list on eBay and allow the buyer to pay extra for protection. I was willing to sell the buyer a nice cheaper coin first to ease the wife's suspicious nature
The coin will remain with me until I get $$ for it. It's not going to be sold cheap. They were getting it cheap. Screw em! A dealer here would charge $8000 AUD for this coin. If it goes to Heritage it will be with a nice reserve (over 5000 USD)
  13. RareSov
    2006 Gilt Kookaburra MS70 found !
I got one MS70 I needed, and the quest continues
    Soon I will submit a pile of kookaburras. A fair few 1990, a few 1993, 1994, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001. If I can get a 70 for each I will be over the moon, 2010 objective complete
The 2007 Gilt Kookaburra so far eludes me, and 0 exist in the NGC population. If you have this coin and know how to check for the MS70 grade, do it ! it seems to be the toughest of the lot.
Am going to find a couple more and I'm sure I'll come across a 70 eventually. 10,000 coins were minted after all.
    4/5 MS70 gilt sure feels better than 3/5. I am re-energized !
And another member was kind enough to sell me a 1993 Kookaburra MS70 so I don't even need that. I am submitting my coins for a few others who need it.. a few of us trying to complete this perfect set

    2009 P Sovereign
I have to say again this is a beautiful coin !!
Just missed out on the perfect grade. PF69 ULTRA CAMEO
Other coins in the submission were okay, but one Kangaroo got MS68. Luckily, I picked up a couple more cheap the other day and one is that date. I would like all 3 Aboriginal ones MS70 and have 2 more to try..
    My first silver Panda, a 2009, got MS70 !

Still here.. Kookaburra collecting and more
First, congrats to all registry winners. Some amazing sets as always.
I am closing in on the first perfect MS70 set of Australian bullion silver $1 kookaburras. I am preparing to submit coins and may finish the set if I get lucky
Also the gilded set which I have 3/5 already
These sets have proved much more elusive than I thought. My primary 2010 focus is to complete these sets immediately. They must be done this year or I am selling the coins off. Some are very tough themselves and worth good money
Here is my latest purchase.. I am a Tiger so its time I had one of the lunar coins.. make that four lunar coins
My next purchase is huge, will post more later..

  17. RareSov
    I received my errors back
Soon I will image my errors in slabs, for my $1 and $2 error sets. I love these sets I have started, and am now thinking of selling up my US sets to pursue the more costly error. I missed the coin shown below which fetched nearly $2000 AUD (inc commission) at auction last week.
It is very tough to consider selling sets I have worked hard on, but I might sell my commemorative proofs set which has quite a few already, all PF70UC only..
Same goes for the First Spouse set. It may well depend on the results of my next submission which includes 2 of the recent 5 spouses I need for 2009. Buying them is only a little more expensive now in my AU dollars so I may continue the set. If gold goes to crazy levels I will probably sell the set around peak, since they have such high gold content and are also a great set. Not too many people have a perfect 70 set of them, and it comes at a cost for a few of the harder ones
Anyway, enough rambling (feels good to write some stuff). The error coins are going to be very easy to image so I might do them tonight in the dark conditions (its 10pm here already). My very own darkroom !

  18. RareSov
Totally agree with the no proof eagles. Also, sov images uploaded..
Maybe I will abort collecting proof silver eagles at all. I only have 2007 2008 in PF70, and 2000-2003 PF69
Why bother. The US Mint has made its worst decision ever. Mint 50,000 of them instead and put them up one or two per person ! look at the 1995-W for crying out loud
With all the economic problems, I agree melt 50,000 of the Braille's ! what a joke. I will probably stop collecting commems now as well, even though my Numismedia value of the set is already some 6000 USD
That would leave me nothing to buy at the US Mint anymore. The $1 presidential stuff can go too.. I'm really considering this.
Also, I uploaded the pictures. I have to change my lights so the angle is lower, and the bagmarks are more realistic. On a couple of nice coins they are amplified.
Anyway, LUSTER baby ! no more scans.. these images will be replaced soon
    http://coins.www.collectors-society.com/registry/coins/SetGallery.aspx?PeopleSetID=77011
  19. RareSov
    I want ! who doesn't ?
Is anyone NOT buying it ?
If not please buy it for me ! I fear by the time my little internet connection over here sees the website with it on, I may even miss out. I guess I will get one, but of course having 5 of them would be even better !
So please let me know if you can purchase it for me and send it on to Australia. I will cover all costs, it will be just as cheap as mint purchase because of the high USMint charge I face anyway
  20. RareSov
    A major overhaul is needed.
Another example in my competing sets..
    My coin 1885M 1/2 Sov XF40
    Vs coin 1886S 1/2 Sov AU50
These coins are about half a grade apart in Australia. VF and gVF
The 1886S is "common" in that grade or lower. 82000 minted is reasonably low, but there are lots remaining
The 1885M is "rare date" in any grade, with a tiny mintage of 11,003 and an estimated population of remaining coins 1/3 as many as there are 1886S's (500 vs 1500)
My coin, nearly 4000 points. The 1886S gets 5500 ?
Having looked more, it is a grading issue. The 1886M is recognised as the most rare coin, but 40,45,50,53,55,58 are not distinguished and are either XF or AU ! yet there are a range of coins there from aVF-aUNC in Australian terms and things just dont work out at all..
The Sydney Mint half sovs are probably as bad as are the Edwards and George V types. To get big points simply pick the rarest date or dates and look for coins that are going to slab with a high number. Even a VF coin will slab 50 on some types getting you the AU score
Something must be done.. I am not very interested in competing when coins of the same series, can be worth less money (and be considerably less rare) but get more points. That makes no sense at all.
I feel there should be some correlation between price and points. This means someone with tons of sets of Presidential Proofs etc etc common will only have a score someone down the middle and cannot win on points. The person with set after set of monster rare valuable coins in the 6 figure range should be getting the most points.
Isn't that the way to go ? please comment..

I am surprised noone noticed the error, least of all me
The image of the 2010 Koala in my last entry was wrong !
The correct obverse uses a new font and has 2010 on it. The coin would be slightly problematic with no date !
I noticed because Downies used the wrong obverse again in another image ! this time the ANA kooka set.. a 2010/2008 mule ? now that would be funny
    http://www.downies.com/images/product/aq385.jpg
Wrong obverse, both obverses should be the same
THAT is the Koala 2010 obverse, as well as the lunars
Here is the mistake I only just noticed today..

If you clicked the Adobe update in the forum, scan your computer
A few of us noticed mysterious Adobe updates on some forum posts, from a particular user (who must be infected)
Some antivirus scanners already detect the suspect file. If you were affected or you aren't 100% sure your machine is clean, I urge you to take action and run a Microsoft OneCare protection scan.

I fully expect 3 MS70 from the 2007 Kookaburras. One for my set, and two to sell ! hopefully I get 4..
Here then once again is my 1984 "Rabbit Ears" variety, considerably rare in this nice grade

I have uploaded temporary images of almost all the coins confirmed for this set
    http://coins.www.collectors-society.com/registry/coins/ViewPersonalCollection.aspx?UserCollectionID=2242
Comments much appreciated ! I have a planchet flaw coming I might add now as well
Pictured is the first year of issue error known as rabbit ears.. the top kangaroo has doubled or otherwise wrong ears. I receive this coin in a few days
I also just bought rabbit ears 1998 and 2000 coins, and will be looking for the other known dates. Whether those will make it into this set, which will be all slabs soon, is to be decided.. if I get too many I will stick with 1 of each error type
