  1. This coin is going to replace the MS68 2007 that I have in my signature set. MS69 Maple leafs are not easy to get and I managed to win this one for about the price of the raw coin + grading fees.

I'm hoping to win a couple more nice pre-graded Maples in a couple of days so I can add representative pieces of the earlier portrait designs to my sig set. These will also improve my relative standing in that competitive category.

  2. Nice coin Rev.....I have always wanted to get a few panda's!!

What's stopping ya? The current dates are pretty easy. A 2008 or 2009 shouldn't cost you more than about $40-50.

I'm hoping to build a mostly complete set though I'll probably never get some of the early coins. Right now I'm trying to see what early (pre-'95) and mid-dates ('96-2000) I can get my hands on for less than $70. I'm not really worrying about the 2001+ range right now though I have a 2008 and I'll probably buy a 2009 soon.

The dealer just decided that my offer on this coin was fair so I'll be able to add it to the set soon. Because of timing issues, it'll probably arrive before the 1990. 1989 was the first year that they were made of 1 oz of 0.999 silver so it's the first year that fits in with the definition of my signature set.

  3. I placed the order for this about a week ago, but because of issues on the other end it probably won't ship for another week. The price on these earlier pandas tends to creep up.

The newer "pronged" holders are gradually starting to enter my sig set. This is the 3rd 1 ounce bullion coin that I have in the new holder. I think they look nice in the holder, but the coin's size clearly tests the limits of the available space in the slab.

  4. That unicorn looks like a proof and the kiwi looks like a reverse proof but both are graded MS, am I missing something?

No more than the rest of us. Many of the other countries that are issuing silver bullion coins that are limited editions and intended to be semi-collectable are using Brilliant/Polished fields and devices but they're still considered "Mint State" coins. The Chinese Unicorns have a "Proof" version. The only difference is that the "Proof" coin has "P" with a circle around it in the field on one side. That's it. Other than that they're exactly the same coin. The "Mint State" has a mintage of about 50,000. The Proof has a mintage of about 8000, but it has that ugly P on it.

  5. Well, I've been wanting to place an order for these for the better part of 2 weeks now but I wanted to wait a bit (since I've also been getting several other things). I've been wanting to get a few more Pandas so my 2008 wouldn't be sitting alone in that set. Yesterday was the earliest point that I'd told myself would be acceptable for the purchase so today I bit the bullet and bought them.
