Sending cash through the U.S. mail
Rob’s Coins replied to Henri Charriere's topic in US, World, and Ancient Coins
I can’t say that I’ve willfully and trustingly sent money to a person in faith that they will send me the product. I have sent coins to NGC and optioned out of the insurance. A sizable $ package for my comfort but I hate insurance…. 😒. The things I could buy if I had all my insurance money back!! -

And you got the “Daily Double (d die)”. How much would you like to wager?

I’ll offer a fact. If you go to NGC registry and points you can see where you stand among all NGC collectors. If you go to the bottom of this list you will see that there are 33,327 users with at least one coin in the registry. Of the 333 million, I have no Idea but would take a shot at 1/20 have an about 5 decent coins, just based on my experience with casual talk among friends and family. None have any tpg coins. I must edit and add that 1-2 registry points is probably not a stellar keepsake! :-)

a penny error or damage.

I tried the kind polite way with newbies. I’m starting to see why people resort to tough love like VKurtB. I got tough love by VKurtB. Made me want ask more questions and learn more. I don’t know which approach is better but I’m started to lean towards VKurtB’s methods! ☠️ rip the bandaid off fast then help them assess the wound! I’ll leave the newbie training to you guys!! 😂 -
i think ai found a 1915 penny
Rob’s Coins replied to Robertdpg's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
Hello Robert, glad to see you have a good attitude! For me, I like the fact that a penny back then was mainly copper and not like the copper/zinc Pennie’s of today. You will find that the value of copper content is somewhere around .02 - .03 cents for this penny. So is it a penny? Depends on how you look at it. -

Hello, I’m glad you’re excited about coins! Great to get into this hobby. I’ve been lurking around this forum for about a year. Great info and good guys, really know their stuff. Let me tell you something that helped me. I was searching lots of change coins and at first I thought I was finding some interesting things. I would recommend putting these finds into a jar, not marking what you find. Hang around on this forum for a month seeing the coins posted in newbie. Look at the expert advise. Try to figure out why they are giving this advise. Then after a month revisit your jar of anomaly coins and ask yourself why you put it in there and do you still think it’s special. If you like it! Keep it in the jar! If you learned something new and no longer find it interesting, set it free. Read the links posted to learn. missing letters are grease that clogs the die and it doesn’t strike or weak strike a portion. -
I work with hydraulic equipment. Not knowing for certain but I would think if all dies were equal at both mints then the pressure and strike speed may play a role. I’m sure there is finesse to getting a good strike regardless of the die used.

And all this time I thought you were a spearmint guy.

I have mainly us mint coins but also look at Canadian mint. I’ve noticed though that once I leave these two I’ve found some other options that I like; and some not so good in quality. Some of the mints that produce good coins with art also charge a lot of $ for a 1 oz silver coin. I’ve been happy with east India company. Germania mint I bought a neat high relief coin, although it didn’t look like I was expecting from their pics I was pleased with the quality. Pressburg mint I haven’t been fond of from my experience. Their designs are neat but the striking isn’t as good as what I hope once I receive them in hand. I like the designs from XXI mint but I don’t think I own their coins so not sure on quality. Just curious what your favorite mints are in case I’ve overlooked something. Which do you feel have good quality?

I just started collecting seriously for about a year. I originally thought toned coins were neat, which they are. I just can’t justify spending additional money on them. With a little knowledge from other hobbies. I was able to buy a bottle of “stuff” for $15 that would probably last me two years of toning coins within about 10min each. Nothing to do with coins. Put things into perspective for me. Granted mine first couple look very crude and obviously fake. I bet with a little patience you could get a coin to pass. No longer a believer in toned coins. More an art project than a collection for generations. No, I’m not going to name products or methods, sorry. Not in the buisness of generating fakes. Just thought I would share my thoughts.

Happy Dance! First Error Find
Rob’s Coins replied to Rob’s Coins's topic in US, World, and Ancient Coins
I submitted as a variety plus cause that is where I found the photos to check. You’re right, I call it an “error” but truly a doubled die. Showing my newbie side but I knew to select variety plus on the form. -
Happy Dance! First Error Find
Rob’s Coins replied to Rob’s Coins's topic in US, World, and Ancient Coins
Hey Henri, No, not at this time. Hopefully I’ll get the pic this week so I can post it. It just hit my status bar from NGC. It’s a 1969 quarter DDO FS-101. -
I submitted two coins that I suspected to be errors. Should have posted them first but trying to learn myself. I’ll be darn if one hit! Don’t blow my steam and tell me there is no premium for it, I’m sure I’ll figure that out on my own. lol! Neat though. Curious now to see what it will grade. Where is my happy dance emoji??!!
