  1. The photos look obvious to me that the obverse is copper colored and the obverse clad layer is missing. The offset edge letters kind of confirm it. But, I have not looked into how the edge lettering machine works on these. BUT, I guess this could also be some kind of crazy acid etching post mint.
  2. Don't forget the $ 2.95 shipping on a 6k coin!
  3. Here is a graded PL GSA for you to compare. Be aware that photos taken IN the GSA holder sometimes do not reflect the actual coin.
  4. Let me just say that anyone who tries to create interest in numismatics today, where many younger people could care less about it, is an asset to us all. And with some of the horrors coming out of the US Mint today, just about any decent design could surpass the mint!
  5. I also have this one, which I consider one of the most attractive coins I own.The detail is amazing!
  6. I actually was in a little group that worked to help Carr with the final design for the Amero coins. The first two are some designs I submitted, and the last two are the final coin designs. The basic design was Carr, and the stars were my addition for a background. Neither one made the final design. It was a fun experience though. The last two photos are of my coins..
  7. Numismedia has the 1951 Proof set valued at $720 currently. Link So $409 is not off for a real auction price. It may go even higher.
  8. A little too aggressive ( in that area) on a die polish would be my guess.
  9. No one in my family is the least bit interested in coins. I am in the upper 60's and will start to sell my collection, lest it will be sold for nothing by my heirs. I can put the money to good use traveling the USA in a Motorhome with my wife. Going to sell the graded stuff at either GC or Heritage.
  10. While the real VDB initials were shifted a little to the left of center, the ones you are showing seem to be too far to the left. Just an observation.
  11. Question: Why didn't you just send the coin to PCGS for a re-holdering? All the holder issues would be gone then, and the grade would be protected. (except for the CAC bean) Not sure how they handle a reholdering.
  12. Hate to be the odd man here, but that looks like post mint damage to me.
