  1. Love the FEC, but you can keep the Giants. :slapfight:

I most certainly will keep both, thanks! The other two MLB teams in CA dream of having a pitching staff, and the venue in downtown SF that the Giants have. Imagine, take the trolley down Market Street, hop off between Union Square and the Moscone, take a nice stroll down a few blocks to AT&T Park, watch Lincecum pitch a shutout while Renteria knocks 'em into McCovey Cove, win the World Series on the way, and then after the game, choose from 100s of great restaurants to celebrate in! In your dreams LA and Oakland! But what would a good ole Texas boy like me know about them Giants? (shrug)

Don't get me wrong, I like the players and being born in Oakland I also like San Francisco. As a true Dodger fan from the days of Gil Hodges, Duke Snider and Roy Campanella, it's our sworn duty to be anti-Giant. I wouldn't expect anything less from a Giant fan.

  2. VERY attractive looking large cent there Bob!!! :applause: Given the die crack isn't that a Randall hoard one?

According to an article I read, around 14K large cents dating from 1816-1820 were found in a barrel not long after the Civil War. The majority of these were ultimately bought by John Randall at the rate of 90 cents on the dollar. Virtually all mintstate large cents that fall within those dates are from the Randall Hoard.

I'm assuming that my new pickup is part of the hoard.

Thanks for all the comments. I think these are so cool looking and am really happy to have found it. Even better that it was local and didn't have to camp out next to my mail box waiting for it. :whee:

  3. There are several different finishes, the first was supposed to be like a matte finish (this was the $100 version I think), the one I got was supposed to be more lusterous like a business strike (this one was $125), and now Bob mentioned a $65 version, but I never saw that one listed. Right now the only one available is the one I bought, but I don't suppose there is anything stopping them from making more of the other versions.

The first version and part of the second finish started at $110 plus $5 shipping. Sometime after 5,000 were sold the price was raised to $125 plus shipping. It was a week or two after that the $65 example made it's appearance. According to the link it is sold out, at least for now.
