Now that is a novel idea. Why not allow ICCS graded coins to be added to the canadian sets in the registry.
There is no question that ICCS is the foremost grader of canadian coins (in canada) and are almost as tight on grading as NGC or PCGS, if not tighter. And it would open up a wider venue for canadian sets by a large order of magnitude. True, it would impact NGC's and PCGS's business, no more crossovers, but think of the positive impact it would have on the collecting public. The number of collectors who posess ICCS coins and don't have the wherewithall to crossover, would now be able to put together Canadian sets for the registry, and show off their hard found prizes. Would this be in keeping with NGC's more democratic posture? I think that all would agree that NGC is not the eliteist organization that, the other unnamed registry appears to be. So what if the verification process would devolve into a honor system...we are all honorable collectors arn't we? THINGS THAT MAKE YOU GO HHUUUUMMMM

Has anyone obtained any info on the advertised Presidential Dollar Proof Set? and does anyone have any updates on the plans by NGC and PCGS for holders for them?..and as a last thought....
all these BEWARE posts point to an ongoing problem in the numismactic field...the difference in perspective between the collector and the invester....trying to combine the two is at least difficult and at most a head banging trial. As to the interest in modern coins...they are the most easily available to the general collector, they are seen and offered for sale more often, as opposed to the older (16-17 and 1800's )rare pieces. this I believe is a major reason for their popularity. going to auctions or even shows is not something everone can do...but buying on the internet is...and there you don't compete with the ultra large dealers either with the advent of the new presidential dollars and the continueation of the Quarters (let's not forget the Lincoln penny) the interest in moderns will recieve a large shot in the arm this year, and maybe that's good huh? we'll see......

This has been a good year and a bad year...as almost all are. I have made a lot of purchases to fill sets. And did manage to complete a couple. But the end of the year has been a complete disaster.
I hate to say it, but I am beggining to hate christmas. A very few years back, I lost my father to cancer a week and so before christmas, and this year three days before christmas, we lost a consumer that we have taken care of for over 15 years. She was a member of the family, not just a paycheck. We have not taken it well. But as usual, reality rears its ugly head, and we have had to acknowedge that we now have no income. That is really going to put a stop to the purchase of coins for a while.
But on the reverse of that bad news, I did manage to complete my Lincoln Memorial MS set this year...and while it's not the top set, it is #8 (pretty good huh?) I also finished the Hawaiian type set (no nickel, but how many have em?) and my modern dollar sets, Eisenhower, SBA, and Sac MS and Proofs. I only need the 64 SmMotto for my 2Cent set, and my USA/Philippine Half Centavo is complete. While I am presently at a stop, I don't foresee that as lasting long, and I am looking forward to getting back to completing sets and starting the new Presidential dollar set. So all of you fellow collectors, may I suggest that you count your blessings and continue to look forward to a bright new year, with all the coins you desire coming your way at that perfect price. I will.

Are we to have new style holders from NGC and PCGS to allow the edge incuse portions to show?
Just recieved my Numismactic News today and while reading on the new presidential dollars the thought came to me,,,with the present holders we won't be able to see the edges of the coins to see the dates and mint marks....huuuh Now I am into the modern certified coins big time, it's 85% of my business. So needless to say, I will be sending mucho coins off for certification....and the mint is gonna be kind to us and come out with a new holder to allow the edges to be seen....what about the certified holders? Are we gonna get new ones? anyone heard anything? really makes me wonder.......things that make you go huuuuuum.....dean

with just over 800 TPG coins currently
With just over 800 coins in TPG's in my current inventory, 94% are NGC. why? because I think that of the TPGers, NGC is as accurate as they get and because of the disparity in prices, more people can afford the NGC coins. In my personal collections as you can see, I collect majority of NGC..again because I can afford a higher grade in them. with the coins as a rule being just as nice and accurately graded. face it...price IS a determining factor in almost all of us. (with a couple of exceptions--huuuh) I have always agreed with the collect what you like group...and that's one reason for my current shift to PCWT's I like em...and I can afford them...same with foreign...but even here I'm sticking with NGC. The US coin market is somewhat out of whack, at least some think so...so being selective and getting the most bang for your buck IS the word of the day. and part of that bang is being happy. this is a wonderful hobby, and rich in history...and it's something we can share with many...espercially the grandkids..what else can u ask for?

and I have the proof of that...several from my vactions (plural) in a little spot is SE Asia...and I am definitly male...but boy did I hear some (read some?) interesting things today......
someone was wondering if NGC will slab the Shawnee and Creek Dollars from the Indian Nations? Arn't they under the So Called Dollar heading? huh, I wonder. Don't know, but would like to. Maybe my diary will come up with the answer. Also I picked up two very nice Patriotic Civil War Tokens today...for my begining collection of "OUR NAVY" Tokens. I also heard a statement on people who can't follow rules and then complain when they're called on it. Do the crime, do the time. yep that's a good rule. I sure do like to talk to my diary...it's one sure intellegent entity, that understands my tendency to ramble. You know diary, it's said that any journey is made up of stops and gos, for questions and answers, and to learn new and interestion things. and my journey to be a better numismatist (love that word ) has a whole grunch of em.....well I better stop now...see if I can learn anything new

What a set of Indian Head Cents that would make.....
around $76,000.oo for a set of IHC in MS-65RD with a little left over for some varieties in lower grades....what a set...what a dream...what a hallucination..the chances of my ever having a complete set of Indians in Ms-60 is slim...but who knows..stranger things have been known to happen

when last we left you....I had received a phone call from Mr. Taylor..promising certain actions.......
During this call James had stated that he intended to send me a refund and some gift certificates for grading so that I could give him and his company another chance. He did in fact refund a portion of the charges, and send three certificates for five day grading, also requesting that I notify him when I sent in my next submission. I felt that notifying him was not a true test of any improvement, so I just made a submission. I sent in 7 coins, priority mail, and received 7 graded coins back registered mail in 12 days counting weekends (2) and that is pretty good. I would call that about a 500% increase in service. I would hope that this very good service was not a result of my talk with James and special treatment, but in fact a new level of service from a great old company. Whatever, thank you Mr. Taylor

Now I am the patient one....on the 19th ask for identity...on the 20th went out and bought 4 more and 2 ref books
Patience is definitily one of my virtues...I went a whole 24 hours before I jumped into a new collection...Patriotic Civil Was tokens. After finding a CWT in a bunch of stuff I bought, and having the kind mr. Gator identify it for me, I have now joined the CWTS and bought two refferences and another 4 tokens to start my CWT Army/Navy themed type (?) set. Oh well, just don't tell the boss. Now a shipment to NGC is in the making, and the pins and needles for the results is in the offing. But these things are sure purty and interesting to boot
