Okay, I don’t know you from Adam, but here’s a little friendly advice. Admitting that you have zero knowledge of coins, PLUS saying that you find stuff daily, is a BAAAAD combination. You either have to be the luckiest SOB on the planet, or you’re posting nothingburgers. That will make you controversial at best, and reviled at worst. Spend less time photographing common coins and more time getting some of that knowledge. Jus’ sayin’.

I 100% AM the luckiest SOB on the planet. And i honestly thought a prewar 1941 small S was a decent find! Good to know it's a common coin. Over on CT, they loved them!

Is this better? A little silver? Found this today, too.

By the way, i still know nothing about coins, other than how to find them.

    1) Sounds like the same old place.

    2) Creating a second account is going to get you banned 100% of the time at CT.

    3) Stay here; it’s better.

I'll start poking around, thank you. I repeat, i have zero knowledge of coins! I just find cool stuff every day.

The second account. What if my wife joins? Whatever. My history there was flawless. I have a feeling they wanted me gone for a while now because i have nothing to offer other than my daily finds. I really was a zero contributor, but people had fun!

My wife said, if they're banning you for that, they don't deserve to see your finds. I almost agree. But i made some friends over there over the year, and i lost everything. Contact info, all that, was in my PM folder on the site. Now I'm banned. All gone. That kind of stinks. Oh well.

Example of a daily find, you say? Sure! Why not! Right @Lem E?

    20220331_093135.thumb.jpg.308e4c452c36eabe52a5373a1bab18fe.jpg20220331_093128.thumb.jpg.474e283112e5a54a311138c14b3e8739.jpg

1941S. Small S though. I've found 2 of the large S since i started. I find stuff like this, all the time. I only know about the varieties because of CT.

  3. Not a scam. But very mysterious! Their TOS are vague, to say the least. I apparently committed a bannable offense, and had no idea i was doing it. I was given one warning my entire year+ that i was posting there. I had over 10,000 "likes", a daily finds thread, that was "featured" for about an hour, till i requested it be unfeatured. Granted, i offer zero knowledge of coins, but i had some cool stuff going on over there!

I'm not exactly sure what i did, because i was banned with no notice, but I'm surmising that, someone spelled my name wrong in a comment. Looked funny, and I'm a chop breaker so i thought, some jokester is going to see that and mess with me, just like i would. So i created another account grabbing that screen name before anyone else could, to mess with me. I was never going to use it! Just protect myself. I'm not a big chat board person. I don't exactly know all the proper etiquette, so if that's some "unwritten rule", oops.

When i went to sign on an hour later, i was banned. Now, i have no idea if this is the cause, as i was never told my offense, but that's the only thing I've ever done. They're tight lipped over there. Doug chimes in when he feels like tickling your fanny with a feather, leaving you with more questions than answers. But hey, it's his site, and he can do with it as he pleases.

I've sent messages to the "contact us" link basically begging for an explanation and to let me back on! Zero communication. Oh well. Was fun while it lasted. Was an amazing experience with some really amazing people. Great site! Great time! I'll miss it. Just figured I'd share my banning experience.

So, what do you guys have to offer? :wink:lol

There is no hard and fast rule, but its sort of an unwritten one that this thread is for new purchases vs coins found.   Most people post change/detector/coinstar finds as a separate thread in the appropriate section.   With that said, you would not be banned for posting them here, the mods here are not that touchy like some other forums, it just might not be well received by all the members.  Another way you could share your finds is with journal entries, would make for really nice ongoing journal.

Wonderful, thank you. I'm no trouble maker. I like the idea of a journal. That might be right up my alley. I had a "daily finds" thread on said other website, but was recently banned for who knows what. Anyway, Thank you for your detailed response. Last question, can others post and respond in the journals? I'm hoping so. It's no fun when it's just me, lol. Enjoy your afternoon.

I don't know who the moderator of CT is or whether that person is good or bad. Really, I never had a chance to learn. I was banned in maybe 15 minutes or less. Now, I've been banned only once in the distant past, and in that case the moderator had the "decency" to inform me why. But this was something new. And for what? I do not know. I made three posts in different threads, nothing to my mind being hostile or questionable. Well, it may be the discussion on washing banknotes. One particular commenter was vociferously opposed to the practice. I took an opposing view, and backed my opinion with evidence and examples (e.g., washing a note alters it no more than someone dirtying it to begin with) and also the testimony of a respected stamp dealer who engages in washing with the blessing of his customers. Perhaps someone can find that thread and, if my post still exists, see if a moderator took offense at such a stance and declared me banned for it. The other posts involved finding lost cash, and also "the smallest currency in the world". I cannot imagine either of those rather lovely posts offending anyone, even someone having a really bad day....

Is your screen name there Lukash?

The OP's picture acitvates my organizational OCD.

You wouldn't do well at my job then. I'd prefer more time to sort and count, but the coins come in in sealed plastic tubs, and need to be speed sported and counted. Not much time to look for W quarters. Silver sticks out ok, with the right lighting, so I'm able to find, here and there, but there's zero time for looking at the edge, unless I'm pretty sure it's silver, before i pick it up.

For every quarter i find, i miss one. For every dime i find, i miss three. For every nickel i find, i miss three.

    Estimates, of course.

Not sure what the OP Title is about or this thread....but it doesn't bother me...and since this thread is a bit "weird" anyways....let me ask this question:

Has the NEWBIE section here suddenly had an influx of new posters and new threads after lying dormant for a long time or am I just noticing it ?  Seems like alot of new threads, back-and-forths, low-$$$ collecting coin threads, etc.

Glad to see it, don't get me wrong.  Just wondering if it just came out of nowhere the last few weeks or so.

No, that's OK, you can pull it down, please. Thank you.

    Awesome!

Thanks. Found these too. That's only the second '42 I've found with mint mark. And i have about six '43 steel pennies. Everything I've collected thus far, in my personal collection, has been found in circ. in the past 13 months.

So i post my silly finds every day. It's harmless, and i get to show off my swag!

You average one silver quarter a month, :applause:and I find one every 5 or 6 years. :frown:

    Good hunting!

    Welcome to the forum.

Thank you. I see HUGE volumes of circulated coins a day. I've found over 60 silver quarters, 2 are standing liberty. I didn't know those existed till 13 months ago, when i found 1 at work, and looked it up. I almost threw it in with the foreign coins, lol.

    One 1901 nickel

Almost 60 silver dimes, six are winged liberty.

    Over 25 silver war nickels.

I knew very little about coins before i started this job, now I'm hooked.

Welcome to the forums @CoinJockey73 and @Luke Gob

Thank you. Just to give an example of my useless contributions, these are all the 1964 quarters I've found in circulation in the past 13 months.

I post stuff like this every day, almost 5 days a week. Nothing special. No Morgans, or double eagles, but i do find something, be it a 1941 nickel, a day.

I'm only interested in coins i can find in circulation, so i really have nothing special to contribute. But ppl come by my thread every day and thumbs up me, or tell me the reverse on that '56 quarter is very rare... stuff like that. It's a fun site! Shouldn't be taken so seriously.

Cointalk is not a "scam". Like it's name implies, it is a place to talk about coins. For free. Getting banned probably stung a bit, but this ain't helping. If you're the expert you say you are (NOT mocking, you seem to know your stuff), then take your lumps, screw what the moderator thinks & get back to it; for the sake of science, history & the field. Numismatic fields seem to attract a...certain personality. You have to have noticed that by now. Come on, take one for the "team". Doug Smith is a good guy, you'll get a pardon if you go about it reasonably.

That's what I'm thinking. This guy seems to be exactly what's needed over there, so he must have rubbed some ppl the wrong way, but I've seen no examples of what the OP is accusing the site of doing, since I've been there, a whole 6 weeks. Lol.
