A 4% hit plus cost can make a sub $300 coin a decision play...definatly asking a dealer if they'd send it in is better, odds are youd be using a dealer to send it through for speedier treatment and no membership costs...the 28 is a nice find.

Take it to a reputable dealer and get a hands on opinion.  If it will straight grade AU or Better you might also think of using NCS Conservation Service to clean it up.  I have used them, through NGC, four times on CC gold coins and was entirely satisfied.  Also, if NCS does not think they can help they will tell you.  Good luck.

I checked the grading screen yesterday, and it hasn't been seen by any graders as yet. Again, I haven't seen the coin myself, but I anticipate that it's an entry error. The persons who make the initial entries are not knowledgeable enough to know a Medium Relief when they see it, and someone likely just clicked the wrong line on the pull-down menu.

I made the initial authentication of the sole known Medium Relief coin 20 years ago, and it is illustrated here:

    https://www.ngccoin.com/coin-explorer/peace-dollars-1921-1935-pscid-50/1922-medium-relief-1-ms-coinid-17386

Maybe its your once every twenty year coin...lol.

When you  submit a coin for grading, say a 1909 S 1C, does NGC ever inaccurately enter it when receiving? I sent a 1922 $1 for grading and they have it listed as a 1922 medium relief $1. A very big difference.  Anyone  ever heard of this sort of thing? Thanks

Was this a high relief 22? I know so many people think they have one but you can youtube videos of the differences between them...the grader should spot it if they're worth their salt...did you specify on the submission?

I do not think that mistakes are common as the TPG's have controls in place to double check things, but sure from time to time something is bound to slip through the cracks.  As you have already been in contact with NGC then I think all will end as it should, please update us with the final result.  BTW you never did mention what did you send it in as if not a medium relief?

My dealer got a set of eagles 33 anniversary golds come back...thing is they were 2019 not 2020....it takes a few mistakes for that to reach the customer.

  6. Having almost completed my peace dollar date set which is made from ngc and pcgs i wanted to go all in on one other other but as I just began I wanted to upgrade over time going ms65 to begin the to see how high I can go from my bb card dealing and buy sell coins n stuff...but it seems to be harder to find premium ngc slabbed peace dollars, it seems to be more pcgs and can combinations...but one thing for sure, no point chasing, I don't have that kind of money to tie up for my grandson without me relenting and selling en mass to fund the next season of 'insufficiently_thoughtful_person with money'..lol

1890-S RAINBOW TONED MORGAN SILVER DOLLAR 90% SILVER $1 COIN US #C686

This is why, if I do buy a coin on FeeBay, it is from a dealer I have been pleased with before.

If thats real its some wicked wonder woman toning..doesn't look like dash board or egg toning is all the input I've got but its unusual to see equal toning on both sides in my experience.

Not tying to be negative, but it is about time, PCGS has had this feature for some time.  When you send a company thousands of dollars worth of coins and the PO says its been delivered, it causes great anxiety when you have to wait up to two weeks before you see any evidence that your coins are actually safe and secure.  This new feature should alleviate said anxiety, thank you!

Mine was opened March 17th and apparently cracked open the slab shortly after but from that point zero information....a month and a half of zero information has me more skittish to send in more then a process that is stipulated on the submission form.

I am a newer collector, and I apologize up front if this is a topic that has been discussed at length.  I am working on a 7070 Type Set.  I have been exclusively collecting business strikes, but a few proofs have trickled-in (SBA or modern silver coins that are proof only - gifts from my kids).  I primarily focus on getting classic coins, and this has left me with many openings in modern coins in the set.

When it comes to modern coins, I have been looking for higher MS examples with nice eye appeal wherever possible (and within reason).  However, I can easily acquire PF70 DCAM examples of most modern coins.  These proof coins would give me more points, and generally cost less (sometimes MUCH less) than a MS68 example of the same business strike coin.

I like business strikes more, but I feel like I am doing myself a disservice from a competitive standpoint.  To be clear, my intentions are not to compete, but build a really "nice" set.  But, I can't help but to have competitive feelings on occasion - especially when I can move the points from 400 to 4500 just by buying a 70DCAM coin (and for less money than the MS example).

Does anyone else think like me?  I often feel "silly" as I am not really competing against anyone... but the points don't seem to always reflect the value and desirability of a coin (in modern issues in particular).

    The two obvious answers are:

1 - Buy whatever you like

    2 - Buy both

But - wanted to know if anyone else has this same mental struggle?

They say when buying slabbed coins to buy the coin first, not the slab, I couldn't care less if I never got a point for anything if I loved the coins I have...as a metal detectors I know many other MD'ers who collections of finds would be happy in others trash cans but they mean something different to them, its what it means to you that matters...I have a 2014 britannia, modern, but it completed my britannia set...its a pig privy, very hard to find and possibly because every one of them was damaged, the queens face is scratched, it would never get over a 64 in my mind but it completes my set,I have no idea of points but did any of us collect anything for competition or because we love coins?.

Thanks 😁 but I told you it is copper. I even proved it by verifying its weight!!

Use a rock tumbler on it...give it about 6 hours in one then you will see it in all its glory, btw, the 3 if you turn it 90 degrees is actully a bust looking left...I recommend harbor freight tumber with natural aquarium gravel, a drop of dawn dish soap and keep it away from you cos the noise will drive you mad.

    Dear Dark Chameleon,

Thank you.  Please email me directly at LISAB@NGCCOIN.COM

I can tell you that NCS conservation is taking at least 20 + business days.

    Thank you,

    Lisa

I have emailed you and messaged you and commented to you but you still haven't replied.

Ncs conservation turnaround 20 days plus early bird grading 12 days, equals 32 days, excuse, pitiful 'its being reviewed' and has been for one and a half months.......state where in the time line or fees and tiers it states more thenna month of sitting around doing nothing?

Well we crossed 35 days now, according to NGCs time lines I should be in possession of my coin but no, no response to email either....where is my coin?

  13. It would have been nice if the 2021s were the same size as the original even if more weight but neither 90% or same size makes for an off sized coin for a display of 19s to 20s display...although the existence thus year seems to be boosting morgans and peace which is not bad as an owner although my last date to collect '1927' has jumped by $300 ..still thankful i have 9 already and just 1 to get.

Looks like you got a nice one from the 2nd day's press run! Congrats!

    :)

Are you going to get yours graded?, it will feel good to see what its like after restoration...it doesn't seem to be as grainy as dollarfans so an earlier second day...it does have a nice brow hair line especially compared to my other 65s but they are ofcourse not high relief being 22 through 35.
