Woods020 got a reaction from rrantique in Post your most recent acquisition: US
Another one I picked up earlier in the week. Trying to make a run at a respectable PCGS registry set.

A few new additions I picked up on David Lawrence auction this week.

Woods020 reacted to RWB in How, if any, do die clashes factor into grading?
Hold the camera or computer backwards, or photograph the coin off a mirror reflection.....Clashes are often interesting and do not normally reduce a coin's value.
This might help a little.....

I believe that the OP’s pictures might have been digitally “flipped off”. Bravo.

Pretty sure clashes are irrelevant to the grade. BTW, other than the reverse, nice pics.

Woods020 got a reaction from Nvon in 1904 O VAM question HELP lol
Even a broken clock gets it right twice a day right? In all honesty I’ve been at the hobby for about 6 months seriously now, and I have learned a ton from people here. For all of us newbies I appreciate those of you that are experienced that have patience and give real advice. Many on here seem to worry more about being witty or cocky than growing the hobby. I always enjoy seeing yours and Quintus Arrius’ responses on here.

Woods020 got a reaction from Dylan913 in 1921 S half dollar grade?
I’m newish so others will be more accurate. But to take a stab at testing what I’m learning, I would say this is roughly a Fine (12). BUT there appears to be damage (the chunk missing out of the leg). So that detracts.

Being born and raised in Alabama, I thought it fitting that one of my nicer coin purchases be an Alabama commemorative. Happy to bring one of the better examples to it’s state of reference.

Woods020 reacted to Greenstang in 1942-S Mercury Dime - Weird Rim Deformations?
You have partially described what a Rim Fin or Finning as some call it. It is a thin flange of the metal that extends over the edge of the coin usually caused by excessive striking pressure which causes the metal to squeeze out of the thin gap between the die neck and the collar. Once these have been put into circulation, the fin gets folded over the rim. Not much value once they have been folded over but if you can find one that isn't folded, then you would have one with some value.
Nice photos showing where it is folded over.

All kidding aside, that does appear to be a legitimate delamination mint error.

Woods020 reacted to DWLange in Submission question for FBL Halves
NGC will look for FBL automatically as part of the grading process. It does not require extra services or fees.
-
Woods020 reacted to Coinbuf in 1921 Morgan ---Lamination?
I would say that does look like a lamination that is missing the lamination piece.

The real value of that error coin is that Liberty is facing the wrong way!

It's not a coin, it's a French telephone token.

Woods020 reacted to Just Bob in 1999-D NJ Quarter - odd coloration?
Many of these were gold plated and sold on sites like the Home Shopping Network. The plating adds nothing to the resale value, and, in fact, would prevent the coin from receiving a grade. Your coin may be one of these.

Woods020 reacted to VKurtB in 1999-D NJ Quarter - odd coloration?
There were many sold by third parties with a very thin gold plating. It is likely one of those.
