  1. She had a blast. And I’ll tell you she was my secret weapon. She would simply smile and say hello to anyone coming by. Those that had head down or focused on something else then stopped to say hi and look. Her biggest observation after the show was “dad, does every collector have a story about each of their coins? Because everybody I talked to told me a long story about this one coin in their collection”. I just laughed and said yeah, for the most part collectors like stories.
  2. Is what you have to cull graded or raw? I agree with others on dealers or eBay, but I also like to advocate for selling on these boards. I like seeing collectors selling to collectors, even if I do try my hand at dealing from time to time.
  3. I feel your pain. I’ve been a nomad for work as well. I left the east coast not too long ago…..thankfully
  4. I also didn’t answer your questions fully. The grease filled part of the die will dislodge itself from the striking process. It self fixes if that makes sense so not something the mint would “let go”
  5. VAM stands for Van Allen and Mallis who did a die study of Morgan and Peace dollars. It wouldn’t apply here. i can’t really see the coin, but a missing letter isn’t all that uncommon. It occurs from grease and debris from the machinery filling the letter on the die. Not really an error just part of the process.
  6. I’m at a show in Chattanooga TN this weekend, which is usually a little bigger. Looking forward to it.
  7. Sorry I have been sidetracked. The show was good. It was a regional show, so roughly 40-50 vendors set up. Lots of the regulars in this part of the country. Traffic was good, but sales were so so. That was the general consensus amongst dealers. Lots of tire kickers. I think I sold right around $20k, and I only stayed Friday and Saturday. A lot of that was two coins coupled with a ton of $50-$100 sales. I did better buying in my opinion. I was able to stock up on quite a bit at a reasonable price from other dealers. The highlight of the show to me was I bought a 1934S peace dollar in MS63 from a local club guy that had a table for $4700. I flipped it later the same day for $5850. I’ll walk over to the next aisle and back for $1150 any day 😂
  8. I was concerned about the green on both obverse and reverse
  9. I would love to know the answer to that. In many cases I know definitively it is, or definitely not ever close. It’s the head scratchers I wish we had some standard for.
  10. Agreed. I have no hopes for a star. I was hoping the reverse would maybe eek by. I already have it in the sell pile. No regrading I can get some after the weekend if I still have it. The reverse has the hazy toning that makes it difficult to discern how close it really is.
  11. Any way you can get a closeup of the area? The only thing I can think of, other than damage, would be a small lamination. Would be nice to see more.
  12. It’s graded by NGC now. The band around the GSA slab. It’s a 63, which I fully agree with. Just think it’s darn close to PL. A star would do as well. These GSA CCs invoke all kinds of hysteria. Anything added to that really drives people to have to have it. It doesn’t make matters easier that the reverse has the chalk like toning. Hard to see it fully through it.
  13. That's the correct explanation and wording for what I was meaning in my elementary explanation. I didn't know it had a name. Good to know.
  14. Agreed. Poor choice of words. I was actually meaning to say was it was harder to tell because there is no distinct void like with the JFKs I referenced. Being small and without multi composition it just simply gets smaller overall. It is tougher for a newbie to tell if they haven't seen one before.
  15. I just got a few GSA Morgans, and this one I was debating on resubmitting to try for PL. The obverse without question. The pics don't show it well, but the fields are well mirrored, and you can see the frost on devices. The reverse is what I am debating on. The reverse is more mirrored that the pics appear, but not as glassy as the obverse. Give me your opinion? I anticipate a lot of "no's" from the pics but I am curios.
  16. I agree with others. This is seen somewhat regularly. The larger coins, say a JFK half, will look like a pulley with the center dissolved. With a cent being so small and the layers so thin it may not be as evident.
  17. I wonder if it was a worn die that allowed the design on the edge in that area raise from the die deterioration
  18. It appears it has some environmental issues maybe.
  19. Reading between the lines Kevin it seems you think this is an extremely high grade coin, and accordingly a high value coin. Such a high value coin eBay would not be the right forum to sell. I think you are mistaken. It’s a nice coin, but far from a condition rarity. I don’t collect these but by standard grading principles I think Fenntucky Mike is correct. Maybe, just maybe, eek up into low AU on the best of days.
  20. Perhaps we are all incorrect in that this is a damaged coin like the one you are comparing to. To prove us wrong you can send it in for error attribution and laugh at us later. Now get a basic membership ($25) then submit for grading under modern tier ($19) and add mint error attribution ($18). Depending on what value you want to insure this extreme rarity at supposed we say shipping costs will be $20 in total conservatively. For the low low price of roughly $82 you can potentially prove us wrong. Or in reality spend $82 on a damaged quarter that will be returned ungraded due to damage. The choice is yours my friend.
  21. Nickels seem to be the easiest to dip. Unlike silver or other clad it seems almost impossible to over bake them. I don’t make it a standard practice to dip many but I would hesitate the least on nickels. They almost seem Impervious. Now I’m sure if left in for 15 mins it would be a different story. But within reason they take it like a champ.
