  1. Hard to say... but I'll take your word for it.
  2. I don't know about easily, but let's see... Something to do with stone statues i/f/o county courthouses all over the South, Tecumseh, fire and and a march to, uh, Atlanta? [Edit: Who's buried in Grant's Tomb? Trick question? Sort of.] [Re-Edit: Nobody is buried there. Mr. & Mrs. Ulysses S. and Julia Grant are "entombed" there, above-ground, in matching sarcophagi, raised on a dais and watched over by the busts of Civil War generals. It was the president's wish he be buried next to his wife. That would not have been possible in a military cemetery, hence, the General Grant National Memorial in New York City.] Man, I love this place!
  3. โค๏ธ ๐Ÿ˜ Who doesn't love zeppelins, especially LZ-127? Nice!
  4. The problem I see here is principally one of most unfortunate timing. Coincidentally, the Lincoln Head cent happens to be an area of expertise of the member issuing the preliminary assessment. Consequently, lacking any practical specific knowledge, experience and/or credibility regarding same, I am constrained to concur with the findings. One more thing... I believe it to be poor form, i.e., a breach of basic etiquette, to solicit an opinion, directly or indirectly on price before a proper diagnosis has been made. One cannot claim to be in possession of a "rare variety," ONLY 100 IN EXISTENCE, prior to establishing conclusively what it is one has in hand, or believes, or purports to have in hand, based solely on optics. That is a glaring distraction that reflects poorly on the party making the presentation.
  5. @Sandon: Fair enough. On the only cross-grade submission I believe I have ever submitted to a TPGS, I included a hand-printed notation on the form stating, in effect, I am only looking for an honest, accurate grade, irrespective of where the chips may fall----and will not contest the opinion or determination made.
  6. He's ba-a-ak! Too late for an application of the mythical "Q's exemption," but I should like to make a suggestion... You can make the picture better. To please our roving switch-hitter, now back on this side of the street, get yourself a staple remover and feel free to post this delectable morsel on its own dedicated thread. Yes, I know all about that "first of all" post regarding your allergy to starting new threads. Go ahead!
  7. A bit busy, but important. Clearly a portent of things to come... Brown vs. Board of Ed (1954) Emmett Till (1955) the Montgomery bus boycott (1955)...
  8. ["Lackadaisical attitude" comes to mind... At best, it is a big deal to those who've long ago decided it should be from the get-go. Man I love this place!] ๐Ÿ˜€
  9. However one may feel about this matter, one must have at least a begrudging admiration for the OP's gumption as highlighted in the opening line: "First of all, I'm not ready to start a new thread..." Great stuff!
  10. [Note: A most unfortunate commitment I am going to hold you to with my latest contribution to the long-running, wildly successful Saints thread.] ๐Ÿ˜€
  11. The last time I offered an opinion as to whether the Saints would come marching in, as it were, I was, for lack of a better expression, promptly dispatched with the n-word: "numismatic." I was advised that the fluctuations in the bullion market had little effect on prevailing numismatic prices, particularly where Saints are concerned. [In the fickle world of coins, this is colloquially known as the "z effect."]* On reflection, I agree. To put it crudely, "ain' no Saints gonna go for bargain box prices, ever." There is a comfort margin below which (at least in my mind's eye) Saints are not permitted to dip as dictated by "The Hand," that magical unseen device dealers deploy during times such as these, to insure their life's work (and net value) are not erased, because of a formal technicality like adverse market conditions. And, if ol' Q, who does not collect high stakes' trophies like Saints, is wrong, well now, then it is time to buy! Buy! BUY! * not to be confused with the Coriolis effect which explains the forces at play in the formation of cyclonic weather systems and water draining patterns in the N and S hemispheres... not tanking prices. [I would expound on this, but my instinct tells me an outsized presence ATS is overdue for an appearance here.]
  12. @Sandon: Would you settle for Fine-Very Fine, whatever the grade number is? Also, maybe it's just me, but $97. sounds odd. I would have insisted the coin be sold to me for $99. Then I'd feel like I am getting a bargain! VERY LOVELY COIN WITH MINIMAL SURFACE COMMOTION.
  13. To the OP: It seems to me this would be a far better thread if I kept myself out of it. Accordingly, in the interests of allowing this thread to develop and evolve, without antics, I hereby absent myself from it interminably, for the duration. All in favor, say Aye! Bonne nuit! ๐Ÿ“
  14. I wonder whether you, or any other member, has been "honored" with a non-paper, plastic sleeve roll whose internal pressure against the ends visibly guarantees the integrity of its contents. If paper leaves a chemical signature, I'd be curious to know what, if anything, this elastic plastic does to coins.
  15. ๐Ÿ“: Somebody say jackpot? And don't even think of trying to pull a disappearing act on me, Q. The whole world is watching... Q.A.: Not at all. I got you Eagle, and everybody else covered. From A... to z.
  16. I am going to save this post. This is one extraordinary coin! Too bad it cannot be graded. (The scale only goes up to 70.)
  17. No me! No me! Erroneously certified? Improvidently granted? Ingenuous altered date? You don't think I would remember a discussion about that? Sure I would, but I don't! My wife's calling... The Powerball! And now fake stuff dam*ed near midnite. Too many things going on! How many years after the fact this? I can't sleep! Where's the answer department? And they wonder why I consult Roosters!
  18. Awesome! This is the stradivarius of cellos! Takes my breath away. And within a year after the Golden Gate was opened.
  19. Improvidently granted? I am a newbie! Make it plain! State the matter as it is! The member received the certification, then what? Triple bypass? What happened? How did it happen? I am clearly missing something here. It was shipped out... and the TPG issued a "recall notice"? How does that work? How does anyone expect me to sleep at nite not knowing what to expect when an armed deputy U.S. Marshal shows up at my front door demanding I surrender/relinquish care, custody and control of a wayward coin?
  20. I trust adequate provision has been made to accommodate those who submit slabs bearing decimalized grades as posted in a recent thread.
  21. ๐Ÿ“: Right or wrong, you know what this new service means, don't you? Q.A.: Let me guess... neither you nor your brothers will pass muster. ๐Ÿ“: I wouldn't go that far!
  22. J P M: It's a Gray, Q. Q A: And? J P M: There's a premium on them! Q A: Why? J P M: It's a gray-on-gray. You wouldn't understand. This is high-end toning... you have to have an eye for it. It's an acquired taste. Q A: If you say so.
  23. ๐Ÿ“: So much for your contrived "Q's exemption"! Q.A.: I daresay nothing escapes the notice and withering scrutiny of this chat board mainstay.
  24. Respectfully, I don't see what the big deal is. A coin was submitted. An opinion was rendered. The coin was certified. If it had been me, no offense to ANACS, I theoretically would have gotten what I paid for. What is all this reconsideration and rescission, after the fact? Upon what basis, varmints? Molon labe!
  25. On balance, I would characterize myself as "an insufficiently educated, thoughtful person." How's that sound?
