  1. Someone spoke on it, but who? when...? Stumped! [Edit: It was the gentleman who had acquired a 1940 proof set, I believe.]
  2. Little joke here... everybody knows common courtesy dictates Kurt weigh in first before any formal submission can be made, and doubly so when the submitter is bedazzled by the spectre of an ultra-high grade. I believe we, the Forum, are a jaded lot. We have seen spectacular comets ascend with promise, only to descend in fragmented showers. I wish you all the very best!
  3. To the OP: To quote a fellow member, I'm going to "buck up" and take full responsibility for derailing your thread. I am not, however, going to be distracted from re-stating my most recent query to you: in substance, Now that you've gotten your grading results, what've you got? Enquiring minds want to know.
  4. 🐓: But, whatever happened to the threat of force and violence, Q? Q.A.: Over incandescents? That's not the American way! That was the Sixties....
  5. 🐓 : I wonder if Kurt realizes had he not persisted in writing rolled ends, "roll" ends, the way most of us mispronounce it----much like "double" dies instead of "doubled" dies----this generous concession would have been unnecessary. Q.A.: If he didn't, he does now...
  6. When all is said and done, perhaps in an after-action addendum, would you be kind enough to confide whether there is any factual basis for this assertion, or were simply sounding off? EDIT: Scenario... Q.A.: COUNTERFEIT? How so? XYZ (TPGS): Look at it. It's all worn down; perfectly smooth... Q.A.: That's just PMD! It's got to be a Good to Very Good... XYZ: It-can-not-be-gra-ded. Q.A.: WHY? XYZ: Because it's a COUNTERFEIT! Q.A.: WHAT AM I PAYING YOU FOR? XYZ: An opinion.
  7. Now that you've gotten the results, what've you got, exactly? Irrespective of toning, which isn't "formally" considered in rendering opinions on grades... let me cut to the chase here: How about a photo? As it is said, a picture is worth a thousand words! [And, if it isn't, well, that's what the humongous Powerball jackpots are for.]
  8. Here is an example of a bona-fide wooden token, with a recognized real value of one dollar as produced and administered by the State of New York on behalf of the Federal government [Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as "food stamps."]. The objectionable, illegitimate, intrinsically worthless content, posted hereinabove, is little more than a rounded wood chip posing as a political button such as one would pin to one's chest were it not laughable and shameful to do so. No value historically, regionally, culturally, morally, ethically--and numismatically. None!
  9. You are the mensch on the bench in every meaning of the word [and your contributions to this Forum are immeasurable.]
  10. Q.A.: This coming from a guy who's got his entire life's work in flips... 🐓: Thanks for the encapsulations, Quintus! That ought to put us ahead by a nose.
  11. I was just getting ready to object to the use of the word "bootleg," primarily because (and I may be wrong) incandescent bulbs, I believe, are no longer being made in the United States, but I took another look at my 4-pack which is a dead-ringer for the one in the photo provided by @EagleRJOand I'll be [expletive deleted] if the sticker on it doesn't read: "[store name]" and the price, "$2.79 + tax." Identical packaging and color, but bi-lingual Spanish/English labelling, including: "Not for Sale for Use in the USA," and "Made in Hungary." That's a quantum leap in price, being 4x more through Amazon, but I would be curious to know the country of origin. Then again, maybe your bootlegs are better than mine.
  12. A garden-variety desk lamp? Sheesh! [Pardon me while I trash my short, squat, stationary table lamp. No wonder I can't grade!]
  13. small fixture... what in tarnation...? Ceiling? negative! Table lamp? negative! Wall sconce? negative! Pedestal floor lamp? negative! I give up. This is new numisma-speak for what, exactly?
  14. Short answer, No! The allusion to PCGS is an illusion. Maybe the traditional scale hss been dispensed with or superseded by newfangled decimals..
  15. Let that intrinsically insulting, demeaning and offensive content continue to stand as a testament to man's ignorance and intolerance. DISCLAIMER: The content alluded to does not reflect the spirit and letter of the NGC Chat Board Guidelines nor the values of the membership.
  16. Two fleeting thoughts... 1. Felix passed almost fifty years ago. Would he have approved this reimagination of his work? 🤔 2. Could someone please turn the exterior lights down? My wife would like to see the steps.
  17. @rrantique: [Expletive deleted] cataracts! All I see are Morgans. Great stuff! [Edit: I believe I've been punked!]
  18. This is a gripping account set forth with passion. (And a friendly reminder, face value: 91 cents!) I cannot imagine anyone skipping over any detail of your acquisition. I vaguely recall there was something special enough about the 1940 half that merited a stand-alone, dedicated story, but I do not recall the particulars. (Maybe Mr. Walkerfan would know.) Very considerate of you to share this with the membership. Delay a decision to divest? I understand perfectly! This is one purchase that made my day! Great stuff!
  19. That it is. If I were 70 years younger (had you there for a moment, didn't I? ) I would consider my options, but fortunately I got excellent advice on this Forum regarding same, and decided to keep things right where they were, and remain. The one gold 🐓 I had that never made it into a Set Registry, my personal favorite, I gifted to a friend. In my mind, if ever there was a viable candidate for CAC consideration, that one would have been it, but that's water under the bridge. Interestingly, what I find most attractive in a coin, may not amplify its eligiblility for CAC consideration. I have no opinion of the service either way.
  20. It was, until it wasn't. This is a matter that is continuing to evolve. Last I read, the "brake broke," i.e., the submission was misplaced.
  21. Not necessarily, sometimes I'm busy. Then, I turn to you, our resident expert on all things numismatic. As a practical and hypothetical matter, if one submits a coin one believes is valued at $200. and it turns out upon preliminary examination by a grader that it is worth a great deal more as in the OP's example, say $20,000., what happens? Is the member contacted for the necessary submission form adjustments and related fees? 🤔
  22. A "67.5 via PCGS,"... None of my PCGS slabs were honored with this unique attribute. What gives here?
  23. 🐓 : This is the one promising lead that got swept by the wayside... Q.A.: Troo dat! I, for one, would like to know the acronym of the undisclosed TPGS that employs that uniquely incremental system of citation...
