  1. I don't know about a PL attribution, but is this date supposed to have the initials V.D.B. on the shoulder, and if so, can you see it? Tks.
  2. This may come as a surprise to you but there are Rules and Guidelines that govern the use of this Board. The pi-guy lacks the clout to launch a broad, direct appeal to the general membership. If he feels strongly enough about a personal matter he can avail himself of the tools commonly available to everyone else: phone calls, private messenger, private networking. I have to endure panhandling every day on public transport; we would be remiss in our duty as responsible members if we were to allow the professionalism of the Chat Board to devolve into a free-for-all. IMNSHO.
  3. You've been uncharacteristically vocal lately... I understand you've earned a "100 comments" badge elsewhere, just this morning. Your accelerated activity is endangering your status as a Neophyte.
  4. 🐓: This coming from a guy who makes and breaks his own rules, at will. Q.A.: Been around since forever and never heard of the ignore button. Sheesh! BACK ON TRACK!
  5. Some two hundred posts over little more than a week's time. I really ought to take a walk ATS and give the OP the Good News!
  6. Not to worry. The whole shebang can be distilled down to "Bye-bye, so long, farewell," as memorialized in the 1966 song, "See you in September," by The Happenings.
  7. That's easy. Look at your bio profile. Now me, I have to keep a scorecard. I have no choice. Clues... From whom have my posts elicited emoji? Who welcomed me back with open arms when I was banished to Bogeyland? Who PM'd me with words of encouragement? Those random acts of kindness have not gone unnoticed.
  8. That's okay. My parents were both atheists. Maybe that's why I turned out so well.
  9. Granted, not a commemorative, but nevertheless a long-lost relative of @Ray Tatum's plate.
  10. Q.A.: Face it, Ricky. We are little more than chaff. Not even an afterthought. Less than worthless. Miscellaneous... 🐓: Why, I never!
  11. Yup, a piece like that would have been right up Henning's alley.
  12. On balance, I would have to say I agree with you, but that's the beauty of an abandoned thread. You can turn on the Exhaust Fan----and clear the air. Anything anyone posts on this thread is inapplicable to begin with. Why? Because how much more on- or off-topic can you get than "Outta Here"? This thread inadvertently serves to keep other threads from devolving into chaos. Nothing here really matters. There is nothing to add or subtract from the conversation. Plus, its derail-proof. This, in essence, is the perfect thread. Members can duke it out here and then proceed to other threads in gentlemanly fashion. I am curious to know what brought you here but am too polite to ask. Looks like Ol'hoop is whoopin' it up elsewhere. We all know he's comin' back. That's a given. A guy who refuses to formally ignore someone is not going to give in and allow anyone to run him off. He'll be back. No harm in blowin' off a little steam in his absence. Oh, the wife... Gentlemen, I bid you adieu! (Man, I love this place!)
  13. @VKurtB: It may humor you to know IF I were to ever attend a coin show, my expectation would automatically default to: Everyone here (dealers, particularly) has my best interests at heart. And if they ply me with wares, name a price, quickly followed by, "but for you, my friend..." I should be flattered. I never cared for haggling. If a dealer were to state his price, I automatically assume that is the lowest, rock-bottom price possible and to even entertain the thought of suggesting anything lower would be downright rude and insulting. Do I have the right attitude, or what?
  14. To the poster's credit, he resisted the urge to take a toothbrush to bristle out the exterior surfaces. These coins are commonly referred to as Angels (or Genie, in Fr.) Coin connoisseurs will note the fasces (a version of which later appeared on our Mercury dimes beginning in 1916) on the obverse, at left, and a rendition of a Rooster, the country's mascot, also on the obverse, at right. This is the series that immediately preceeded the Rooster line which first appeared in 1899. Lovely coin!
  15. 🐓: This is the member who was the inspiration behind the "What do you collect?" topic presided over by the incomparable gentleman from Kentucky. Q.A.: You read my mind! He, uncharacteristically, posted a reply which, for anyone playing it close to the vest, is one giant leap forward. We need to dissect that thread, find out what appeals to him and insinuate ourselves into the conversation. And when Ol'hoop returns, he'll see us contributing to the "body of knowledge" and no one will be the wiser. Man, I tell you, I love this place! We're In Like Flint! 🥰
  16. 🐓: That can only mean one thing... Q.A. I can take a hint, but in billiards, that's known as a carom shot----"two birds with one stone"---- a strike n rebound... n lv it at that.
  17. 🐓: You have FOLLOWERS? Q.A.: Relax, we all make mistakes.
  18. Exquisite writing style, on-point presentation, impeccable timing and flawless delivery.
  19. While not given to indiscriminate bragging, my ignorers comprise the lion's share of my covert constituency.
  20. 🐓: This coming from a long-time member who, only two hours ago, departed from the ironclad rules he promulgated, a generation ago, governing participation on the "Follow the lead picture post" thread by posting the dateless skeletal remains of a coin for no other reason than because he could in a somewhat arrogant display of "OP's privilege." Q.A.: Back on Track! indeed.
  21. I understand perfectly. Before I ever heard of market vs. technical grading, I knew irrespective of grade, a lustrous gem with original mint luster was more desirable (to me) than a piece without it coming in one grade higher.
  22. @Lem E: I got a big kick out of your line, "but only graded as a 66." Well, exc-u-u-u-se me! And, to show you how clueless I can sometimes get, I saw your references to "40 steps" and "39 steps," and thought, even Low Library at Columbia U. and the U.S.S.Ct. in Washington, D.C. don't have that many steps, and I know he's not talking about that Hitchcock movie, "The 39 Steps." (Sorry 'bout that errant tomahawk gash on the first column.) All things considered, a very fine coin with a very respectable, stellar grade!
  23. 🐓: Looks like we've gotten a reprieve here! Q.A.: Whew! And not a moment too soon. [Sometimes it's good to know where you stand with the bummock, that part of the iceberg (membership) you don't hear from too often.]
  24. You did not specify country so (in the absence of a Red Book) I am going to nominate the United Kingdom's 1977 Silver Jubilee Commemorative Coin Queen Elizabeth. Why? Solely on the strength of the handsome good looks of the horse featured, which suggests jut in its strut (reminiscent of a certain Rooster).
  25. I do realize. It's the way of the world. Publish or perish. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. What God hath joined together, let no man put asunder. (Yes, that meaneth both the Panama and Suez canals should not have been built, but what can one do?) Pity the Proofs. All dressed up, and no place to go... relegated to a double-rowed box. 🤔
