  1. Here's a fun one this is a double headed penny a friend of mine found in change but it's not real it has cut marks along the rim and weighs an off weight. When my friend found out it wasn't real he offered it to me for a dollar and I couldn't resist. I just find it impressive that anyone could pull off a stunt like this. I posted the third pic so people can see the crack its on the right hand side and just under the rim. I know it's fake but who in their right mind would take the time to do precision work like this and then just throw it back into change?
  2. Ah so theirs a space between the FG and the monument on the close am proofs I follow you. Thats a good resource man thanks. This will give me a chance to check out a few other coins I think I got in the collection. I have two 1931-S cents that site has information on their but those again were found with many counterfeits on a coin roll hunt so I just labled them as possible counterfeit. I've only found two boxes in my whole life except for one nickel roll that had obvious counterfeits but their were alot of them along with some altered coins. The 1922's I have 2 of as well one with an obvious d and it looks like a scratched out s or d. Thanks again I will check the new roll that's coming.
  3. Thanks VkurtB I will look to see if their is an fg on the reverse of the 2000 s proofs that are coming in the mail. I will be sure to wear gloves when I search that roll
  4. Thank you very much at least they won't get sold to the next guy. More junk for the junk collection. This at least allows me to take them out of the safe and lable them as not a coin.
  5. Here's a coin my dad just bought that I don't no if it's genuine but any help on the authenticity of this coin would help so he can get his money back if it's fake. It is an 1896 s morgan silver dollar. The reason I think it might be fake is it has a petina just like the 1893 s I bought him and that coin ended up being fake.
  6. not those particular coins but I ordered more from the same seller and they will be here soon. I figure its worth looking through the roll of proofs to try to find one. I asked the seller if they were close am reverses and they replied no they shouldn't be, they should be the same reverse as the wide am cents but I want to search the roll anyway. They were cheap enough at 30.00 roll and free shipping but I will keep you posted. I believe my sister when she said their is a space bettween the A and the M I just miss labled them. I gotta order rolls because their is a chance their is one out their. The only thing I know is that the proofs come from silver proof sets that people split to sell individual coins so my chances of finding one are slim to non but at $30.00 a roll I can't pass up the chance to find one. The coin I have been looking for in circulating change is the 2008-2012 canadian cent non magnetic with a p. What do you look for in change?
  7. Here's some coins to look at. The coins in the picture are suspected to by cyprus mils but I have my doubts because they were bought at a local coin shop in Vermont where they sell copper by the pound for 1.99 a pound but you gotta buy 10 pounds. I have a feeling they are counterfeits but I don't know anything about them other than there were supposed to be 25,000 of them. That's another reason I think they could be counterfeits because the mintage is low and who sells rare coins for the price of copper by the pound.
  8. Here is a pic just of the roll that I bought. I put one pic of what one of the reverses look like so you can see they are wide am's but trying to post every coin is a waste of time I dont have all day. You don't have to believe me but I did want to add that the seller of these coins has grown wise and currently sells these same kind of coins in the same condition for 6.95 plus 1.95 shipping and handling. I worked out a deal with the shop to sell me all of the coins in the advertisement for 5.00 a piece plus 1.95 shipping and handling. I filled out another half a page and have about 12 coins in the mail that are coming that I paid 5.00 a piece plus 1.95 shipping and handling for. The buying a roll at .50 cent a piece was a one time deal. I would buy it again but they won't sell me another roll I asked.
  9. I have an update, the coin I thought was a 1945 1.88 gram cyclonite cent is actually called a thin cent which is made using a standard weight penny and dissolving it in acid to make a thin cent. I found information on them online but not before buying another one. I paid $40.00 for a 1951 S 2.40 gram thin cent and it has been graded but I wonder how since the coin is an altered coin. The site with information on the thin cents said their is no extra value. Here's a pic of the coin.
  10. Here is a pic of the two counterfeits found in change. These were found in oregon where they make coins. I say that because they have a place in town called the little mint which I assume that means they make coins but I don't really know I've never been their. I take all possible counterfeits out of change because it helps the nation keep it real and at only a few cents to me. I plan to get these to a bigger counterfeit collection in Vermont some day to get them out of my real collection and into a hoard where they belong stashed away for a later generation to explore and hopefully help not get ripped off because they know what a counterfeit looks like.
  11. Wow I learned alot from that post thanks I will check my 1863's that is if I have any. I collect indian heads but their kinda to expensive to buy on ebay and mostly g4's. Beware of etsy they sell fakes that look real. Do you know how to tell a real indian head from a fake I don't yet.
  12. Let me clearify things I checked the 1999's and they are close am's I bought as wide am's same with the 1998's I had my sister check the 2000 s proofs and she said their is definitly a space so they are 2000 s proofs wide am reverse and they are not rare but I bought those as just proofs so I didn't get ripped off their like the 1999 and 1998's. The 2000 wide am's though their real and I have about a roll and then some so they are least rare and I can take pictures of those. I don't pay much attention to my modern cents though because they will only be valuable in 100 years.
  13. I found two flying eagle counterfeits while coin roll hunting in oregon one in a nickel roll one in a penny roll but they are fake. To more for the junk pile.
  14. Is still a die clash so I'm not worried if its not worth what I paid for it it will be someday.
  15. Those things are at my sisters house in vermont stashed away with the other minute treasures. I have started a new book for adding to the hoard later. I am currently in oregon collecting more junk but I can try some day. I may be able to get more of them I saved the seller on ebay. I thought all of the wam clam was only semi precious has something changed. I don't have any 1999 or 1998 s close am proofs. The ones I got came from silver proof sets saved by the seller. It was in the add.
  16. Here's a picture of the coin they say is cleaned. I still like it but I paid too much for a cleaned coin when a certified cleaned coin can be obtained for way less money. Here's a pic of the coin.
  17. Same. I've had to settle for problem coins when other high end coins where to expensive here's an example of one of two I got for $309. I gave one two a friend which was exactly the same ungradable but still nice. So about a $150 dollar price per coin. Which is probably better then the raw coin I paid $425 for that someone on this website said is a cleaned coin.
  18. Not in my book their not rare they are modern coins. Maybe in 100 years time they will have a value. I don't pay much for them though I buy them in rolls at bargain prices. I bought 50 2000 s close am proofs at .50 cents a piece. Some day in about 100 years some one will find my hoard and what a thrill that will be. I have stored with them all the counterfeits I have found from a coin roll hunt in wiliston Vermont. The counterfeits are 1943 copper cents with no vdb and no hairline a bunch of 1944 steel cents all counterfeit all things that are worthless but you can't throw a counterfeit back in change. I kinda gotta keep it all stashed and it will die with me before I sell it for less then I paid for it. Not to change the subject but did you know their are coin shops that have a four for a dollar bin here in Oregon that have lots of the 2014 s proof cent, and thats the day I found out I paid to much for them.
  19. These are all investments for another generation of collectors not me man. I figure if people new how many their actually were they would stop collecting them. The red book I thought was a good resource to find mintages that are low but I was wrong. I had seen that the 2014 s proof cent was low mintage in the 2014 red book but by 2020 the red book had a higher mintage for the coin. I bought 400 at 2.00 a piece and it was the worst investment in modern small cents I ever made. I figure all this junk will be worth something when I am dead and gone. I will never sell any of them they are for the future penny collector.
  20. What about the 2000 s close am proof reverse? That link is a good resource but they don't mention the 2000 close am proof reverse. Further more I know their not rare that picture is a book that I have filled with mostly 2000 wide am cents but theirs a half a page of 1999's and a page of 1998s and two pages of 2000 close am proof reverses. The point is if they are all horded the population stays low. The value will go up in years time. The second coins I did this with are the 2009 copper satin cents. I bought in at .36 cents a piece and bought 5000. The problem with all of these is that they are modern cents and not many people collect them. If you find any information on 2000 S close am reverse cents it would be greatly appreciated.
  21. Ha Ha Ha What's up I was at work at 11pm. I've been trying to buy up all the rolls of unc 1998,1999, and 2000 wide am cents so less are certified because I got alot, in my mind their not rare if they can certify them all. I got to retire on something.
  22. Its not a for figure coin its probably zinc coated. I called the bank today to get more circulated boxes to search for a real 3.1g 1983 bronze cent. I will try to take better pictures though I have a nikon but I misplaced my disk drive so I cant really use the camera to upload picks.
