Hi Karen, I hope not. I am not sending coins to be RIPPED off! Its work finding rare coins and these coin companies should screen there people. You don't get to charge high prices and then have your coins ripped off.  It is why I take pictures of my coins as well. I am new at this but I will not, will not be taken advantage of. That person stole to sell or auction the coin for him or herself. Now I am wondering should I be apart of any coin grading  company.

    Thanks

    Lee

I think you are fine. If he did get something back different I am sure it was just in error. Those people that work there aren't allowed to be involved with any coins outside of work.

    P.S. --- I like their holder as well ---- NGC ===  ^^

Hey, I've never sent one in anywhere, but if I did it would be to either NGC or ANACS and ANACS only because there's no membership fee. But nobody will see me in a PCGS OR ANACS chatroom because I am a very loyal human and my loyalty does lie right here. Honestly I was hoping an admin would see this and remove it and pass on the info. Of course I wasn't aware they are such a huge company and now I suppose one guys coin being mistaken for another isn't going to effect them enough to bother with anyway.

  3. Wait a minute now, I didn't say it was true, only that this guy is saying it happened. He is new, like inherited his collection a month or so ago, but he showed pictures. I only want somebody to know so they can be prepared should dude make contact. Plus with the happenings with ole boy at PCGS this past week I figure there has to be some governing agency that is going to be watching all these companies that grade and attribute. Anyway, here are the screenshots from that day. I will look and see if anything has been added.

  4. Just an FYI here. Some dude on FB is claiming he sent a coin to NGC for grading and they sent him back a totally different coin. I have screen shots if anyone needs to see them. I'd say since a founder at PCGS was just fired this claim could hurt NGC in the midst of what all is about to come down and since this is where my loyalty lies felt I should mention it.  Have a great day.

"I've long believed these occur at the beginning of the year when the technician inadvertantly replaces only the obverse die"

This can not be true in this case because if only the obverse die for the new year,in this case 1988,was changed but not the reverse die for the previous year which was 1987 then the coin would have a 1987 reverse which is RDV-005 and the RDV-005 is the same reverse as the 1988.

the reverse die used on this 1988 is the NEXT YEARS reverse, not the last years reverse.

Wow! Lucky you. What did they wind up being worth, if that's not shameful to ask.

    Not true.

    Well, maybe.

Mr Lange posted this about your '43 Lincoln:

"The raised line on the reverse of your cent is a die-clash impression. The outline of Lincoln's profile was transferred to the reverse die when the two dies came together without a planchet between them."

While some classify a clashed die as a variety, Fred Weinberg considered them errors in his Error Coin Encyclopedia. In 2010, he had this to say:

    "Of course Die Clashes are errors;

We've had this discussion a million times
    before.

The term "error coin" can, and has, cover
both mechanical errors and die varieties.

Then, more recently, the term is broken down to:

Mechanical Errors - double strikes, off centers,
    off metals, clips, clad layer
    missing, and yes, die clashes

Die Varieties - VAMS, RPMs, Doubled Dies, etc.

Die Clashes are the result of a Mechanical Error -
there was a mis-feed of the planchets being fed
into the striking chamber and collar; the dies clashed
together due to than mechanical failure; the coins
struck from those dies are the result of this mechanical
    error malfunction.

Yes, die clashes are on the dies - but what caused that
    to occur? A Mechanical Error/Malfunction.

That's just my opinion, of course"

PCGS has labeled Franklin Half dollars with the "Bugs Bunny" die clash as errors.

    Lincolncentsonline calls them errors.

The article differentiating between variety and error on our hosts' site, HERE,

does not specifically mention die clashes, but does reference die errors.

Error-ref lists die clashes under die errors.

It maybe said, however,  that a die error is just that: an error on the die, and that coins struck from that die are considered varieties.

So, you see, there are differences of opinion, even among experts,(and so-called experts), as to what your coin is - error or variety. I am not posting this to cause confusion, but to encourage you and to let you know that you have indeed found something of interest, and you shouldn't give up. I have never found a die clash in circulation, and I'm sure many other members here would say the same.

Thank you Bob. I just love you guys and your ability to pick me up.

If you 'think' you have a small date Denver minted coin, it would be easy to determine, after all, how do you think the 70 Philly & Frisco small dates were found? But, and that's a big but, after 48 years I'm certain they would have been found already, but stranger things have happened like the 1919 doubled die dime that was just recently discovered.

You know what WJ? I used a pc of tape and I suppose the 7's are just the teensiest bit lower than the other 3 digits, although VERY close, but a cent coin isn't gigantic so a teensy bit can be substantial. I appreciate your reference to the 1919 Dime. Casman also referenced it a while back and today you have reinvigorated my search for the unknown error as he did then. You see, while I've only been looking at coins for a few months, I have yet to come across a single error. Not one. Even when I thought I had they turned out to be different varieties. While everyone around me is posting, posting, posting all their wonderful coins,  I have squat. But Cas also said that I have an great eye, so between the 2 of you you've convinced me to stick around for a bit longer. So I shall continue to ruin my sight and read, read, read and study some more and my first valuable coin is gonna be a doozy.

,,,but there are some 'experts' here....you need to listen and learn and it will save you those grading fees that don't work out so well.

With good images, 1970-D small dates are pretty easy to ascertain when you know the PUP (Pick Up Points)

So are you saying there is such a thing as a small date 70D? I felt foolish mentioning it because after I did all I could find info on was a 1970 S. I mean it's not like I have the cash lying around to have anything graded anyway so they woukd just get put into those little holders until I struck it rich some other way. I do take some goid pictures and totally will once I drop these kids off today, because I have  1 that is in great shape.

  9. So the marriage is both the obv and rev dies used on a coin. Would it be the 8th DD known from the die or the 8th known of all?  Like say the DD is on the O in One so any DD on the O in One is called the 8th? And i need to study up on the die classes which look like will be pretty simple. See how I can confuse myself?  So I can use these designators a little bit when cataloging my stuff. But should probably be specific, so more writing?

I don't know most of those (see? oh, ye of excessive faith), but CONECA has a nice glossary that may lead you in the direction of answers. If that one was among the ten glossaries, then I apologize for pointing toward already-trodden ground.

I think it was but they are all a blur so I shall look anyway. I still have faith sensei. I do hope I spelled that correctly.

Well, i hadn't looked there yet and it will make for an educational read, but did not answer my question. Although it did remind me that UVC is universal variety code and DMR is Die Marriage Registry. But doesn't cover the numbers that follow the letters. Idk? My head is pretty worn out about now so Ima stop for tonight. I REALLY need to hurry up and get a microscope. Shew!.

  11. Hey again. Can anybody tell me what these numbers and letters are. I know the lds is late die stage and that simple stuff, but the 008 and the 8-R-II-C-VI, the UVC-2605, DMR-029, AND LMDS? I think those are how I would list each coin with those common varieties in my little book without needing to write everything out like DDO@One Dime or DDR @ LIBERTY. And would only need to add CUD's and LAM and such. But I'm totally not sure and I'm finding that I am writing and rewriting an awful lot. I did google this and it links to a particular coin, but still doesn't tell me what the groups of numbers/letters stand for. I even looked at like 10 diff glossary of terms and no luck, so maybe they're unique to the one site where I am seeing them. So anyway, if you know please enlighten me. Thanks.

    Hi all,

This is a little jump-start package of tips to help people navigate the new boards quickly.

FIRST - YOU MAY WANT TO TURN ON SIGNATURES (under the settings menu at the top left)

SECOND - YOU MAY WANT TO CHANGE YOUR THEME (under the "theme" drop down at the very bottom of pages and on the left)

THIRD - YOU MAY WANT TO CHANGE THE WIDTH OF THE SITE (by clicking the pencil icon at the top)

Customize those preferences as you like

    THEN

    1. GETTING TO UNREAD POSTS IN A THREAD
You just click on the black dot / star to the left of the thread title to go directly to the new stuff. You will notice that there is a red line separating the new stuff from the stuff already read. (p.s. it's a star if you have posted in that thread yourself)

    2. REPLYING TO A POST AND THEN GOING BACK TO READING
You can hit the Quote link at the bottom of each message to reply. After you save your reply, you'll be at the end of the thread staring at your new message, but you might not have read all the remaining messages in the thread. Just click the swoopy arrow on the right side of the post you quoted and you'll jump directly back to where you left off.

    3. GOING TO THE TOP OF A PAGE
In the lower right hand corner of your screen you will see a red arrow inside of a circle. If you click that you'll be automatically sent to the top.

    4. GOING DIRECTLY TO THE LIST OF FORUMS
There are a few ways to do this. First, you can use the bread crumbs in the upper left / lower left of the page that show you where you're at, and just click on the level you'd like to visit. Second, you can go to the top of the page, click "categories" and move around that way.

    5. GOING STRAIGHT TO A SINGLE FORUM
On most pages directly to the right of the breadcrumbs you can find a link that says "Jump To". This allows you to pick a forum from the drop down, click away and hit Go and jump directly there.

    6. VIEWING LOTS OF POSTS IN A SINGLE LIST
In the menu at the top you will find "activity streams". This offers you various ways to view new content across mulitple forums in a single list. NOTE the expanded / condensed view in the upper right of these pages. ALSO NOTE: Under "My Activity Streams" is the ability to create your own stream, made up of just the forums you care about. It's really sweet.MAKE SURE you click on the gear icon next to choices like content types to get cool extra options, like narrowing by the forum.

    7. JUMPING TO NOTIFICATIONS
When you get a pop up alert, like about a private message or being quoted - you can click it and go straight there.

    8. EMOTICONS
Hover over emoticons where ever you see them for a reminder of the text code to quickly add them to a post  without needing to click on the emoticons menu. ALSO, use the "categories" drop down in the emoticons menu to quickly find the one you are looking for.

    9. FOLLOWING A CONVERSATION
If you read a quote in a post and then the reply, but you don't understand the context, use the swoopy arrow on the quote to go to the post they replied to, and see what THAT post quoted. Keeping doing that until you're all caught up.

    10. MAKING A POST SOMEWHERE WITHOUT HAVING TO JUMP THERE FIRST
Use the Create menu at the top to quickly make a new piece of content WHEREVER you would like to make it, without having to navigate to that section first.

    11. SEARCH
Hover over the magnifying glass at the top on the right for a quick search box you can click in, without having to use the whole search form. Click it to get a more advanced search.

    12. QUOTING PART OF A POST
Highlight some text in a post if you only want to quote SOME of it, OR if you want to quote that post AND whatever they quoted then highlight ALL of it. Then hover over your selection and click the quote hover menu.

    13. HOVERING
Lots of things give you features by hovering. You can see the first and last post in a thread by hovering over it. You can ignore a user by hovering over them (no, not me!). Try hovering. You never know what coolness you will find.

    14. EMBEDING YOUTUBE
Just paste the link. The boards will embed it for you like magic.

    15. READING THE NEXT UNREAD POST
Underneath the reply box once you have reached the end of a thread, to the right is a link that will just move you to the next unread thread. To the LEFT is a link that takes you back to the topic list.

      StartingPoint.thumb.jpg.f34175c93be4a126e07030ea88cadf73.jpg
Clicking on the thread title takes you to the start of the thread.
Clicking on the circle (or star) 1 takes you to the first unread post.
Clicking on the page number 2 takes you to the start of the that page.
Clicking on the time of the last post 3 takes you to the last post.

    17. RESPONDING PIECE BY PIECE TO A QUOTED POST
Put your cursor into their text just after the part you want to respond to and hit enter twice. This will split up the quoted post so you can respond to various pieces.

I made this text an announcement so that it can be see across all the forums, but I'll post it here too so you guys can compl uh, ask questions about how to do other things.

    :baiting::jokealert:

Thanks. Now can you tell me what 'Reputation Points' are, please? I've looked all over and can't quite figure it out.
