  1. RWB nailed it with his note. I had assembled a very nice Proof set (Less the 1871) and had just sold it off this past year. I enjoyed the set and felt it was great looking in hand ... however, I had struggled with side by side comparison of Proof vs MS examples. Some appear very "back and white" as proof but then again I saw many MS TPG pieces that appeared proof as well. Oh well is was fun to collect these ( PS --- the 1871 was missing as I never came across one in a 66+ grade that I liked and believe it maybe scarcer that one might believe) Now saying that, I enjoy patterns now and one of the fun aspect is trying to assemble small sets that have some common historical connections ... the attempt to develop common small denomination designs as RWB noted earlier in the post. This set is about as far I can assemble as the other copper pieces are extremely rare. The 2 different designs in 1868 is note worthy..
  2. Can you add a US pattern J-1620 PF to your slot definitions. I can not add it in the custom set as there is no J-1620 found. Thanks **You can ignore the above request ,,, I learned how to create my own definition and I have now uploaded the piece into my custom set. Thanks.
  3. After a bunch of years collecting colonials I decided to liquidate my modest set through one of the upcoming Heritage Showcase auctions. It has been fun to filling in those registry blanks spaces and having rack up several of those NGC awards along the way ... it give one a little feeling of accomplishment. Colonials have been fun to collect with so much history and stories behind each of them .I think NGC did a nice job in establishing their "US Colonial Basic Design Set, 1652-1796" registry as it turned out to be a great vehicle for getting your feet wet in colonials, to track ones progress, and to experience the breath of the history and designs of colonials. I believe these registry really help a collector to create a goal and to help stay focus on their set. If interested in colonials, this is the link to my listed pieces in the Upcoming Action. https://coins.ha.com/c/search-results.zx?N=3183+793+794+791+1577+792+2088+4294940151+4294967054&type=friend-consignorlive-notice

  5. Ah ... Just ask and one will receive. Thanks for the info. I just order one ( and yes with a signature - I presume yours? ) ... gee maybe some day (100Years from now) it might be worth a bundle The press release sounds intriguing - I just read a similar book with a historical perspective " IN GOD WE TRUST " by William Bierly - I learned a lot and appreciated the historical views very much. Thanks PS ... I had lost the Wizard Coin Supply web link as I had order before from them ... so thanks for that reminder as well,
  6. RWB ... you sparked my interest as I have not read your book ... where can one buy it? I searched my 3 web sites for Numismatic books and I came up empty?
  7. They were rules ...so I would think they still did what they wanted.
  8. a J-244 50C Pattern (Struck in Copper) considered High R.7 (3- 7 Pieces) but this example may be unique (Qty1) Reverse appeared to have been struck from a planchet which had an incused head of Washington on it." making this most likely a restrike in later a later year than 1859
  9. USpattern.com list the 12 piece set -- "...These 12 pieces comprise 11 patterns and the regular issue Flying Eagle Cent in Proof..." https://uspatterns.stores.yahoo.net/18onecen12pi.html
  10. Understand but disappointing. I will presume if NGC is still working on launching a registry with the ANA it will also not include US Patterns. Too bad ... maybe you could team up with PCGS as they have a series of US Pattern Competitive set ... as for me many of my Patterns are in NGC holders.
  11. US PATTERNS BY JUDD ... any update on setting up a registry ... tired of Custom sets
