    Sorry your response makes no sense. The amount listed on the submission form is for the value of the submitted coins. I deal in high value coins and until they are given a grade, no one can accurately assess their value. I might send in an 1804 50 cents coin I paid $1,000 for and if it is graded MS 64, it might be valued at $5,000. So I send in coins valued at $500, am charged $110 for grading, and they are lost by FedX, and after 6 months NGC refunds the value listed on the form. Just hope you or anyone else on this chat board does not have to endure this scenario.

    That said, I want to share some information often overlooked when estimating a submission's turnaround time. When conserving coins with NCS, please remember to combine NCS turnaround times with NGC grading turnaround times and allow a few extra days for transfer time. In the case of a US Economy submission with Standard conservation, at present, the time would be 20 business days for grading and 20 business days for NCS conservation, for a total of 40 business days plus transfer time or about 8 to 9 weeks.

    Nicki, I think you missed my point. I have submitted hundreds of items and fully understand the additional time attributed to conservation. The medals that were conserved are finished and are linked to the 3rd tracking number according to my talks with NGC Customer Service. The 3 medals NOT conserved are still sitting in "Scheduled for Grading." Nothing ships until this third group is graded and they have not moved since being logged in!

I have seldom received my medals back within the stated time frame and I understand that things happen. I would be happy to get them back in 20-25 work days!

    It has now been nearly 35 work days and I have two submission numbers that are categorized as grading/quality control and these medals were conserved. One of your customer service reps confirmed these grading/quality control medals are complete. The other 3 medals that were not conserved have not moved from scheduled for grading in nearly 7 weeks! The CS Agent was extremely courteous and helpful, but it is frustrating when the website says 11-12 days and turnaround takes 35-40+ workdays because the internal work organization does not talk to one another. Is this something the management team could improve? Thanks for listening.

  4. I am the author of "Philippine Medals and Tokens 1780-2020" 3rd edition that NGC uses to identify and assign reference numbers to submissions. A friend and collector in London sent me an email asking if he could request that medals with double letters and/or dates can be annotated on the NGC label? I seem to remember 8-10 years ago someone in the medal grading area telling me that NGC does not list doubling for foreign medals.

    Would you please confirm if a submitter asks for the medal to be checked for doubling and pays the appropriate fee that this service can be provided?

  5. For my submissions in the US, I track the shipment's arrival at NGC. Once it arrives I believe the packages go into a cue and my package arrived on April 3rd but they were not noted on NGCs website until April 11th. It was then another two plus weeks before the medals' details appeared on the website. My point, it nearly always takes longer than you think it will!

  6. I feel your pain! That said, you can set up an UPS account very easily and have the item delivered to a retail store close to you if you are not available. I also sign for the package electronically and ask that the package be left by the front door. But, we live in a gated community which means there are multiple items left each day for nearly everyone and there is little theft.

    Bottom line for me: take control of the situation, if possible, and don't rely on NGC to ship at your convenience.

  7. While browsing last night I was surprised to see a 100 Piso Honeycutt H-1323 listed as a new coin/medal in the category. Currently I am the #1 collector in this category and I am the "H" in H-1323, I attempted to list my H-1323 to no avail! For some reason when I attempted to add my coin/medal, your website states there are no graded examples! Wow! NGC census shows about 5 graded and I have one of them. Is it possible for you to list my slab 2878252-002 or modify the entry site so that I may do so?

  8. NGC can also make a mistake and encase one coin, or in my case medal, with another one in the submission. Several years ago NGC placed two of ten medals in the wrong slabs. Like Coinbuf states, NGC paid for me to send to them and they had the graders confirm the medals and then re-slabbed them. Took 2-3 weeks as best I remember. Yes, it does happen!

    Getting coins/medals graded can be frustrating. Like you most of us have received coins back that are "body bagged" or not graded and cross-overs from PCGS to NGC is not always approved. I try to remember that grading is an inexact science, but like you I am often disappointed.

    Several years ago I submitted over 6 months about 120 coins already graded by PCGS and ANACS. Nearly all came back within +/-1 grade. That is, most graded MS 64 came back exactly that. Two coins that were graded by ANACS were deemed "cleaned" and one coin graded MS-64 Red by ANACS was upgraded to MS 65 Red by NGC. All in all, the grading was close to that of other third-party graders.

    Best of luck in getting your Economy World Tokens back based upon turn around time. I submitted a group of world tokens and paid Standard fee of $40 per token and stated turn around for this category of 3 days. The tokens arrived Oct 19, were listed on Oct 25, and as of today they remain in 'Scheduled for Grading.' My calculation is that we are approaching 30 work days.

    Last month I submitted two high value tokens under Express ($80 per coin) with a turnaround of 2 days. It took about 2 weeks from arrival to being mailed back. At times I get things back in 2-3 weeks but other times 6-8 weeks for Standard ($40 per token). The estimated turn around times on NGC website stay pretty much the same. Go figure!

  11. As a followup, I called NGC Customer Service and they sent a message to medal graders. My submission finally shipped October 17th or 45 work days after being listed on the website. I also have two rare medals submitted under Express at $80 per medal fee. My Standard/Early Bird took 45 work days while NGC claims 17 work days. The Express is advertised as 2 days and it has already been 2 weeks since they arrived at NGC. My point, don't expect returns anywhere close to the times listed on the Submission page!

    I submitted 2886477 10 World tokens, Standard/Early Bird grading level, that arrived August 3rd and was listed online August 15. Within a week the submission was completely described and placed in "Scheduled for Grading." I understand that the 17 day turnaround for Standard World tokens is not guaranteed, but it seems strange that my submission remains in scheduled for grading more than 30 work days later.

    Would you PLEASE check to see why there has been no movement on my submission?

    I use UPS ground and they have an option for signing online to leave at front door or another location or with a neighbor. Life is too short to let your situation cause a coronary. If items are sent USPS they come registered mail and you have to go to the post office to sign for the item.

    You have gotten good advice from the responding Board Members. WHY do you want the coin to be authenticated? WHAT would you accomplish by having it authenticated? As stated by others, in slightly different words, it is your money but why have a coin that is worth 1 cent authenticated at a cost of $60? Where is the benefit to you?

    If your coin has green verdigris on it NGC is unlikely to encapsulate.

    For me, I only submit rarer Almost Uncirculated (AU 50-58) or MS uncirculated items (MS 60 and higher). There are rare coins/medals of lower grades that would benefit from grading/authentication but not for common US coins. Likewise, I would never buy a rare coin or medal that has not been authenticated by NGC or PCGS. I never believe sales pitches from sellers/dealers. Just my two cents.

  15. IMHO no one who has submitted coins in any numbers has not been disappointed at NGC, PCGS, ANACS, ICG etc. Just a couple of thoughts from a medal collector. Most of the time submitting coins from the mint, unless they are gold or rare, costs more than the coin's value. Yes, the coin has a grade and is somewhat protected. To assume that any coin coming from the mint should always be an MS 70 is not a realistic assumption. Then there is the concern between an MS 69 and MS 70. I cannot tell the difference so I would never send in a coin for a "review." Like some of you, I have seen articles recommending collectors not have new coins slabbed since there are so many MS 69-70 specimens in the hands of collectors/dealers.

    My collection areas are US Philippines 1903-45 and Philippine medals and tokens. If you look at the NGC census report you will see that for many years (1903-41) there are few or no grades above MS 65. I submit 40-60 items per year to NGC and I check all items 3-4 times in direct sunlight and under bright lights in search of scratches/imperfections. If I see any, I do not submit the coin/medal. If you follow Stacks or Heritage Auctions you will see that Phil coins in high grades (MS 65 and above) are recording records prices. Philippine medals from the Spanish period through WW II in AU and above are also bringing record prices.

    My point is that, for me, grading by a third-party adds value to older and rarer coins. I would not buy a 1903-1912 US Philippine peso without it being graded by NGC or PCGS. Conversely, I would not submit a 2022 coin from the US or foreign mint because in my opinion it is not necessary. I realize that other collectors see this from the other side of the desk and I respect their opinion. To quibble about not getting the grade one wants--perfection or MS 70--is not something we as collectors have control over other than to complain among ourselves.

  16. I had trouble with USPS registered mail. Often it would arrive in Charlotte and sit there for 5-10 days! I switched to UPS Ground and it takes 3-4 days from time  NGC ships to reach Raleigh NC. I often ship to NGC via USPS Priority Express (1 day) for high value packages, but have also had fast arrival using USPS 2-3 day Priority Mail. My problem was with registered mail and UPS Ground took care of that! Make sure you specify GROUND or NGC may ship Air which is much more expensive!
