  1. Wow what great coins !!!! That Trime is truly memorable.

Here is my newest (not in hand yet) piece. How about a "guess the grade" on it?

Lovely Stone Mountain !!! Great toning. I'm not the best expert on this coin, but

I own a MS 65 which is much whiter than your beautifully toned gem...I guess

I'd also give your's an MS 65 as well. [ Like your coin more though - as I'm over

the white stuff and now more into toners ! ]

  2. Victor Thanks for the praise! Mike has a great coin collection! One of which is WOW! I would love the chance to photo some of the coins in that set. I am sure there is other ways of sending coins other than via the mail. I wonder how Heritage transfers coins to and from Auctions. Maybe TDN can shed some light on this issue.

A few collectors have advised me to use

Brink's for valuable shipments. They are

fully insured and considerably less expensive

than using Registered mail for bulk shipments.

I assume WOW referred to the SLQ set ! ?

Then again, it may be easier for "Mohammed

to come to the Mountain" than the other way

around. Up for a trip to "Sunny Florida" ?

    Edited to add: Bruce,

Could I see an example of some of your work on

other people's coins [ other than the images of your

IHC & Buffalo nickel set] ? Thanks !!

  3. Mike, I'm truly impressed! Mostly with your Barber Quarter set but also with the rest of your collecting interest IAW your bio.

    You didn't mention the 1913 S. What's the scoop on that-a-one?

I've been reading up on Barber Quarters lately because I had 2/3's of a set fall in my lap but they are just in the Good-ish range. I'm going to work on it just as a fun set. The two big ones are low priority for me, though, since my primary interest is my type set. I just committed to buy a choice F15 1805 dime. I still have lots of early types to go. I am proud of my 1794 cent in VF20 that I got from Hoot. My proof Barber set is pretty sweet, too. I'm at 60%+ now but that last 40% will be pretty tough. :þ

Bruce Lee (Brucewar) imaged my type set a few months ago. He's branched out and has been imaging other board member's coins as well. He doesn't charge anything because he enjoys the challenge so much. I would recommend his services if you're interested. He is very honorable and registered mail is virtually risk free. So, I'll leave this hanging out there for you. wink.gif

Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed it. Your enthusiasm is contageous. thumbsup2.gif

My 1913-S quarter was in an ICG 58 holder and I crossed it over

to PCGS a couple of years ago - its now in an AU 55 holder. I thank

Win Callender of DLRC for notifying me of its availability.

My dime set is scheduled to be graded this year - I crossed a bunch of

ANACS coins over to PCGS this past January. Slowly my set will grow

on this Registry as well as accross the street.

I'm a bit nervous about sending out my collection for imaging even though

your recommendation didn't fall on deaf ears. Imaging a few thousand coins

would be a daunting task, so I doubt anyone would offer to do this for gratis.

I agree, Registered mail is the only way to go for shipping coins, but as they have

a maximum INSURED value of $25K per package, and I have a few single coins in that range, there'd be more packages - and more chances of a potential loss - regardless

of insurance [ alot of the coins are irreplaceable, ie: the 13-S quarter in AU 55/58].

I applaud your interest in early type coins; I have only one. I've always wanted to start a 1793 - 1836 type set but all I have is an 1832 quarter in MS64.

BTW: I love the Columbian quarter recently posted - great colors.

  4. It is very interesting how lighting can change the coin's appearance.

In your opinion, which image better describes this stunning type coin ?

I'd say.....both! It all depends upon the lighting but the darker image is probably the more realistic, everyday look.

    Sweet Barber Half, btw! MS65?

    And.........

    --------------------

    Looking for Barber Quarter: 1901-S

PCGS, ICG or NGC : AU 53 to 58

All I can say is...... 893whatthe.gifhail.gifhail.gif893whatthe.gif

Thanks for the compliments on the 06-D. The coin is in a PCGS 64 holder. I also think its a 65 but won't be resubmitting it until my MS date set is complete. Then the whole "kit and kabotle" gets sent in for regrade.

    The 01-S quarter is the glaring hole in my Eagle Album...and as my collection of quarters ranges from AU 53 [ 96-O, 96-S, 98-S, 03-O, 06-D, 12-S ] thru MS 64 [ 06-O, 09-O, 11-D, 11-S ]. I would say the balance of the set is split evenly in grades 55 & 58.

I'd prefer to have had the whole set in AU 58, but as there is just one 1909-O in PCGS 58 - and he ain't parting with that baby in my lifetime - that's for sure - I knew I had to get a MS coin for the collection. I also hope to upgrade the AU 53's, but I'm not in any hurry.

I can safely say that my quarter collection is considerably nicer looking than the half dollar set...just wild beautifully toned monsters for the most part. The only whitish coins are the 11-D & S but I also have these dates in AU 58 as well which are vividly toned too.

One of these days, I'll have the quarter set imaged ... right now, all I have is a scanner and the coins don't look natural with the scanner [ the scanner works well with mid range VF/XF coins though , I think the brilliance throws off the scanner on the AU & MS coins ] .

  5. It is very interesting how lighting can change the coin's appearance.

In your opinion, which image better describes this stunning type coin ?

You also mentioned a Proof 64 - which you liked better - do you

have that image as well, for comparison purposes ?

    My newest acquisition:

the image is supposed to be: ] { I can't believe the image appeared !!!}1665963-1906DhalfPCGS64.jpg

  6. I also have never seen a Barber dime with that heavy a clash mark. Very interesting coin.

TomB: Just an amazing 1892 half. That coin was well worth the wait. You mentioned that this is a Type Coin for your collection ? Its one of the nicest toned Barber halves I've seen and the strike is perfect. Aside from the reeding mark in front of Liberty's chin, the coin is as close to a MS 67 that a MS 66 can be. Awesome pickup. Mike's images sure are nice.

My newest purchases' images need to be resized to fit on this post. I'll add the images to the affected sets - where the image size can be a touch larger - which are 1898 Mint Set

    [ a stunning 1898-O Morgan, PCGS 66 ], Washington Quarters Proof Set [ a 1950 PCGS PR 67 - almost Cameo ], and Walking Liberty Half Dollars [ a 1947-D PCGS MS 65 ]. 1630266-1898oMorganms66.jpg

  7. Boiler,

Your patterns are just amazing. I have always

    assumed that you're a collector - true ?

The NGC web site provides an allocated area

where you can set up a specialized collection

that isn't structured. This would be a perfect

venue to display your collection; for all I know,

you've already done this: if so, how about a Link

to this incredible set of US Patterns ???

  8. Elbesaar,

    Beautiful coin!!! 893applaud-thumb.gif

BTW, just for interests sake, are you a fan of German rivers?

    Thanks for posting the images.

Yes, Elbe is the name of my Black Doberman Pincher - female ; and Saar is the name of my Red Doberman RizenPincher - male. The naming of my dogs after German Rivers started many years ago when I was an infant...I just continued the tradition.

With regard to the scarcity of the 1898-O's are concerned, I hope the results from a Presidential Review at NGC become fruitful; I have an NGC 30, EX: Reiver ; which very well be the only authenticated Micro O of that date.

The 98-O is a special date - for sure - and I also have one in pcgs 58 and another one in pcgs 20 - which is destined for the raw book.

  9. Thanks Bruceswar for posting the image of my newest addition to

    the Barber Half set.

Its got to be the nicest AU 58 in the whole set !

The previous owner thought the coin was a MS 64 and did pay MS money

for it not too long ago. I was offered this coin - unsolicited, I might add -

and I jumped at the chance.

Coins like this don't come around very often.

  10. Not mine, but I did have it in my possession for too short a time. This coin wouldn't register due to some "mechanical error" - their numbering system said it as a PR 58, the actual printed grade said it was an AU 58 . This is an S-9, and I was hoping for an S-3. As I collect AU Flying Eagles and Indian Head Cents in AU 55-58, this would have been the highlight of my set.

The strike is typical of an S-9:

[ I won't even bother to attempt adding the actual image ]
