From the photos -- laundered AU with prominent fingerprint. But reality is reality....

That fingerprint is unfortunate. Even without it - it's an AU coin in my opinion although I am not all that familiar with the series. Where I'm a bit undecided is if it would be a details coin. I leaning towards that.

Hard to read the luster from the photos, the surfaces look to have some rub, a fingerprint, and some dings and reed marks.  Assuming there is some luster still I'd call it AU55, if the luster is subdued or impaired then AU50 or less.

Posted a better obverse photo. It has luster. Looks better in hand than the photos which were bleached out some.

Definition: Fruitcake - "An ancient, monastically approved method for storing strong liquor when bottles are prohibited or unavailable.(Note - There is no reliable documentation that anyone has ever actually eaten a fruitcake.

Anyone know more about J. M. Walker ?

I know a lot about Johnny Walker and saturating fruitcakes with it. Does that count?

  4. Can you combine re holder and crossover submissions on the same submission form? What about raw submissions can they be combined with reholder or crossover? I do not think they can - but want to check before sending. Them in.

    thanks

I am new to collecting Ancient NGC coins and am wondering if anyone has suggestions as to what dealers are reputable to do business with.

    Thank you.

are you new to collecting coins or just Ancients? What are your goals? There are many outstanding dealers out there, but there are also many charlatans out there. Are you looking for a local dealer - if so, where do you live?

Harlan Berk is excellent, but may be a bit much if you are just starting on a limited income. Take a look

Iceland also claims "the longest running parliament in the world" (the Althing, founded 940), but I suppose the key words are "continuous" versus "running". The Althing seems to have been discontinued between 1800 and 1844. Interesting stuff!

Yup - all in the phrasing I guess. Iceland is another interesting place.

Very interesting and a great family connection ! Belongs in a real education display at a major coin show.

[PS: "... the longest continuous running tram in the world. " Great. How long is it? 10-cars, 50-cars, 1/2 mile...? Don't the horses get tired by running continuously? Would it be better on them if they trotted, or cantered, or maybe just "ambled?"]

    :)

It's a one horse power tram - not very efficient for mass transit, only one car, but there isn't all that many people living in the Isle of Man. It also does not travel, very far. Most people haven't even heard of the Isle of Man.

I haven't researched my genealogy back this far, but who knows -- maybe a connection to Manannan - The first King on Man. (Joke)

  8. My series is sometimes difficult to detect counterfeits. While there are some very good counterfeits, there are many more poor ones that really stick out. As far as chips go - you have to be confident in the source of the chips. There are many counterfeits or non-conforming chips on the market. If you can't trust the chip - how can you be able to trust the end product?

This is all I've read so far: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20190808005907/en/Certified-Collectibles-Group-Files-Lawsuit-Alleging-Tens

Looks like they spent quite a bit on the new Registry software and the firm dramatically under-delivered.

    Thanks Alan

firm Fixed Price contracts are easy to litigate as compared to level of effort. I hope NGC takes them to the bank! This type of situation happens far too often. Often the contractor will substitute lesser, and sometimes - not qualified, workers to reduce their cost. This often results in mistakes, missed milestones and severe glitches in systems. Too bad
