  1. McCormack place would have easy access and be close to Michigan Avenue, museums and the lake for shopping and restaurants. It would be further away from O’hare and Midway. I’m not crazy about inner cities these days, but… What are your objections to McCormack Place? I would rather see it kept in the suburbs or entirely out of Cook County.
  2. Chicago - right at least that’s what Cliff Mishler was talking about just before the security concerns arose. I doubt they’ll move away from Chicago.
  3. What you probably saw was the nomination survey that was recently sent out. The voting ends on March 15th. The earlier survey was voted upon in 2021 for the first time. This years voting will be for 2023. It sounds like it will be an annual event now.
  4. Wasn’t this for 2020? I just finished the survey for the latest survey just yesterday or the day before. I did select Roger again.
  5. Like many of the younger generations that inherit collections, a good many want to sell them right away and be done with it. I suggest that you pick out a few of the nicest and keep them to remember your grandparents. You will be happy that you did as you age. Set them aside or better yet, read about them and learn something about their history. Knowledge is never wasted.
  6. Thought that you might be interested in this months Coin News.
  7. 1930 P Coin Specifications Struck - Perth Mint Australia ('P') Rated (R) Rare - Marsh Mintage - 1,915,352 Inscription: GEORGIVS V D:G:BRITT:OMN:REX:F:D:IND:IMP: Milled Spink S.4002 B.M. 8. I saw this one on auction recently and thought about bidding - very nice. Statue of King George Ill in the council chamber of the Guildhall in the City of London. The statue is by Francis Leggatt Chantry.
  9. Below is a new release by Spink - volume 2, but a bundle special as well. I doubt that I’ll pick one up as I have other books that cover the topic well. It may be a nice addition, however. Anyone have volume 1 and wouldn’t mind providing a review?
  10. I think that they are a bit more liberal in grading on the early stuff.
  11. Good information discussed in the presentation. If you are going to exhibit or judge - need to know. Anyone other than maybe Kurt watch it?
  12. I think it’s about time for me to update my copy as well. I did just update the Marsh/Hill book, 2022 book of the year, and am happy to receive free shipping. I would have purchased the one you mentioned at the same time, but would have to pay for shipping on that one. I’ll find a copy CONUS.
  13. Oklahoma City would be great. I’m all in favor of it, but have no vote unfortunately.
  14. Too bad the Chantilly Expo center doesn’t have hotels attached and a bit better layout for a large show. Two buildings that aren’t conveniently connected. Close to Dulles airport. or possibly move the show to North Carolina - Charlotte would be nice.
  15. That’s why it has always been known as Crook County, Illinois. are you saying security concerns in 2024 in Pittsburgh or Chicago that the show needed to be moved? I remember one of the board members saying 2023in Pittsburgh and then all will be back at Rosemont. Funny how crime and the complaints that follow can force decisions.
  16. You named two of the three reasons for blacking out the barcode (there may be more) 1) Fraudulent Registry listings 2) To combat counterfeiting 3) the owner does not want a prospective buyer to know how much he paid for it - if that information is available from auctions and the like.
  17. So GF - did you buy the book and if so what did you think of it. ($20 Libs)
  18. Here you go - see the new changes for yourself via Zoom - ANA eLearning Changes in Exhibit Judging Beginning in 2023, ANA is using a new rating sheet for competitive exhibits. Point distribution is changed, and a new judging criterion has been added (“Inspiration and Education”). To learn about how these changes will be integrated into the judging process, watch an eLearning presentation of the Judges’ Familiarization and Certification Program presented by ANA exhibit judge trainer Brett Irick and chief exhibit judge Joseph Boling. Existing judges who tune in to this webinar will receive credit for their five-year recertification requirement. At least three regional organizations (PAN, MSNS, and FUN) will have used this experimental rating sheet before it debuts at this year’s two ANA conventions. TIME: February 7, 2023 | 10AM (MT)
  19. One thing to consider - NGC allows PCGS coins in the competitive U.S. registry. PCGS coins are not allowed in the World registry. They are allowed in the custom sets, however.
  20. Most coin shops deal mainly with what their local customers want. There’s a lot of interest in junk silver, modern bullion and the like. If you are looking for high end or foreign coins - you have to pick your dealers that aren’t most likely in the area as these shops. If you want quality - there are shops out there, but maybe not in your area.
  21. Sounds like a shop that wants out of the business. Most of the shops I’ve been in lately are very well run. Some better than others, but you have to pick and choose. A little research on reputation and experience helps.
