  1. I have 20 or so canada preconfederation tokens I wanted to submit. When I went to get the submission forms it said I had to upgrade to a paid membership. Do that mean that the free membership can no longer submit coins??...that you have to pay for the ability to submit besides the cert. fees?Ridiculous!!

I tip my hat to your untrendy candor. Take equal parts of Crass Competitiveness, Accidental Affluence, and a dash of Philistine Dilettantism (shaken, not stirred) - now add an Ego/Investment olive and one has the perfect Vulgarity cocktail. I simply cannot see the intellectual/romantic value-added by set registries.

Maybe not COMPETITIVE set registries but set registries in themselves are a great way to catalog and share your collection  . The fact that they now allow pcgs coins is not my favorite but even that helps with  cataloging your set.

Thanks you. Is this a weekly forum then? Or just a once in a while thing that gets thrown in the mix? After learning what I learned today about tokens, cost, availability and coolness I might have opened a different can of worms lol. I could see this becoming a way to branch off into another interesting hobby.

I started collecting canadian  preconfederation tokens about a year ago. It has become an obsession.😁

I am sure you have other reasons higher on the list of "why I collect"  than this.

Why is it no one has commented on custom sets. That's where the really good sets are. The uniqueness of these set are outstanding. Here you can find complete sets that don't fall into the US competitive realm. Many of us who also collect world coins - I'm really into canadian coins and pre-confederation tokens- only have the custom sets to display our sets. I have some high ranking US sets but my favorite set is my canadian 1844 Bank of Montreal 1/2 penny token custom set.

    Hello, Charlie.

There is an existing set for these certification numbers here:

    Category: Canada - Type Sets

Set Type: Cent Type Set, 1858-Date, Circulation Issue

You will need to create a set first and then EDIT your set to add your certification numbers. We will send you an email with directions. If you would like to display all Cents separately, then you may create a Custom NGC Registry set. Thanks very much.

I'm not looking for a type set. I want a complete large cent set from 1858 to 1920...all in one set. Thanks!😁

Utter foolishness. None of those places are able to sustain those numbers long term. As long as "human fuel" remains, this virus will burn. The only thing that changes is precisely WHEN. The ONLY thing that can or will stop this is something approaching herd immunity infection levels.

Problem is it keeps mutating. There will probably never be a cure. I decided long ago I will (at 73) not live my life in fear. High risk or not I am living my life.

I have quite a few ICCS coins (George VI buying spree many years ago), but have never resubmitted any. If you go to the Canadian forums on CCF there are lots of ICCS versus another TPG discussions. There seems to be a belief that the "old" ICCS was a lot stricter than the US graders, but that they sometimes ignore issues that would "detail" a coin in the US. Some also think that if you're selling in the Canadian market, it's better to leave it in the ICCS flip, i.e. they prefer it, because it's "more Canadian" I guess. If you follow the grading forum over there, it seems true that they (Canadian collectors) are stricter in general - I see a lot of stuff where everyone throws out VF grades that to me are high EF or even AU. There is some noise about newer ICCS grades being looser or more inconsistent. I have several old-graded MS60 coins that I think would get 62 or even 63 from NGC or ATS. Best to evaluate the individual coin, or maybe post images of an example here for opinions.

Thanks for your input. I've only bought one ICCS coin (early george cent) and took it out for my raw set. Price was cheap and I didn't mind losing the grade. Pretty much an ngc guy anyway. Been thinking about buying more to submit and just wondered how close they were. Ngc canadian coin prices have gotten ridiculous.

PS  Could you give me a link for the CCF forums?

To the best of my knowledge NGC will only cross PCGS graded coins, all other TPG graded coins are cracked and treated as a raw submission.  I have never purchased a coin in an ICCS holder so I cannot comment on how successful submitters have been when taking coins out of those holders and submitting to NGC.  Grading is not a static scale and it has been proven that coins which have failed to grade at one point in time may (and do) get graded at a different point in time at both the two largest TPG's.

Thanks for your reply. Food for thought...🤔

Anything that is not securely encapsulated is a problem waiting to happen ( switch outs etc )

NOT considered a WORLD WIDE top tier grading service.

"ICCS encases coins in an inert (Polyethylene Terephthalate) envelope and is then sealed in a plastic flip. The ICCS grading certificate is sealed in the other side of the flip"

But if you get an actual iccs coin how close is the crossover?

    Hello, Charlie.

It looks like you are still using the collectors-society.com website. Please check your filter rankings to show ALL coins versus NGC only. We have sent you an email on this. You may want to familiarize yourself with the new NGC Registry here.

Also, please click here for information on PCGS coins:

    .

Thanks! 😁 Changed the filter and voila! Didn't think about it because I have been exclusively ngc until now (and would remain so if I could find an ngc certified goodacre presentation sacagawea).

I successfully added my pcgs goodacre sac to my set but I see pcgs coin are still scored at 0. Just thought it was sad to a great coin that I couldn't find in an ngc holder still wasn't given any points just because it was certified by a competitor.
