  1. Hi Ted,

Here are some answers for you:

    1. The term raw really refers to coins that have not been graded and encapsulated by a third party grading service. So that would include cases from the US Mint as they do not have a grading opinion associated with them. That is how we intended the field to be used. Plastic cases from the mint, while offering protection, are also not tamper proof. They can be opened.

    2. Your input options into the system right now are either one coin at a time, or if you own NGC coins you can go under the "My Collection" menu and use Bulk Coin Import. However, the option you are asking about (adding an entire proof set in one shot) is not currently available. It sounds like a good idea, though!

    3. Seeing a guide value on a coin is dependent on a few things.

First, we need to be able to associate a very specific definition of what that coin is with the entry in order to be sure we're matching up the correct price. The way you do this when adding a coin is to use the search terms tool. If you can identify a coin from the list that way then we can be sure that we know precisely what the coin is.

Second, we need to be sure to have a grade filled in. Currently, for some coins the lower grade value have a known issue displaying a guide price, but the fix for that is coming soon.

Third, a price need to exist. Our price guide is very complete for U.S. coins, but world and ancient coins will generally not have prices associated with them right now.

I will add that if you are locked into IE7 for some particular reason, you can marginally improve performance by reducing the displayed rows to 25 and removing excess columns, but fundamentally there's not much we can do to speed up the site in IE7.

I won't presume to have a good handle on your reasons for not upgrading, but it's probably worth knowing that the speed difference is night and day.

    Hi Zo444,

I have a few quick questions for you.

    1. What web browser are you using? IE? Firefox? And what version? Specifically, we have noted on the site that IE7 will be a much slower experience and we recommend that you upgrade to IE8 or switch to firefox.

    2. What is your internet connection? How fast is it?

I have questions on most of your other points, but let's start there.

  4. Hi guys,

You can adjust the column size, the order, and customize which columns show.

Click and drag the columns back and forth in the header. Click the right edge of the column to re-size. Click customize columns to see a list of fields. Drag new fields out and place them where you want them, or drag existing fields TO the list to remove them from your list display.

Also, while you cannot currently export that grid, you can run reports and export those.

  5. Hi Penny,

Those white boxes at the top are filter fields. They automatically apply a filter based on what you type into them. The way it works is that if you pause while typing a certain amount of time, the filter is applied. If you keep typing, it waits for you to finish.

If users find this troublesome, we may raise the amount of time a user must pause before the filter applies, so keep the feedback coming.

    Thanks!

I thought it might be nice to start a one-source thread for people to make recommendations about any kind of products that help them with their collecting, aside from actual coin buying.

    This might cover:

    Cameras

    Photography setup equipment

    Image conversion software

    Storage options

    Insurance

    Plastic scratch removers

    Loupes

    etc.

So just look around your collection work-area and see if you can spot anything that you might like to tell other people about.

  7. Basically, I try to give WYNK posts a good run in the place they were originally posted, so they get lots of attention, and can gather as many replies as they're going to get in their original place.

Every so often, I run a search and look for WYNK posts that haven't had any activity for over a month, and then move them to this board. If they've had replies more recently than a month, I leave them where they're at in case they're going to see more action.

  8. The "What You Need To Know" (WYNK) posts are a member-driven initiative to write up detailed information about topics of importance in numismatics. This was started by Supertooth in conjunction with his friend CTcollector on 2/17/2006, and through their encouragement and the contributions of other talented members has grown into a nice resource.

These posts initially go up in the other areas of the boards so they get plenty of reads in the "mainstream", and some lively discussion. However, as they age they slip off the front page and get buried under newer posts. Since these posts are such an excellent source of information, we've begun archiving them here in this board where they can stand out a little more once they've finished their run on the main boards and have fallen into the back pages.
