An explanation of how these boards are moderated

Much like "Threads started explicity to bash other members", signatures used to bash other members are not allowed either.

An addition to moderation policies:

CCG encourages free-thinking and open discussion of the hobby and our services among members of the boards, including constructive criticism. We value our members as part of a joint effort to protect and improve the collectibles market. We also expect our members to treat CCG with that same spirit. People who are only here to antagonize the companies and our customers will be asked to pursue those discussions elsewhere. While diverse views and alternative perspectives are needed and wanted here, the CCG boards are not the place for persistent agendas completely in opposition to CCG’s services.

Another addition to the moderation policies:

In certain cases at our discretion, moderation uses a strike and warning system to help members shape their posting in a way that's in line with moderation policies. Previously 3 strikes within a year meant a 30 day suspension, and a 4th strike within a year meant a permanent ban. This will still be true in cases where strikes are applied, with this addition. Two strikes will result in a two week suspension as well.

Update on the strike system:

Within the last 12 months:
Strike 1 - one week suspension
Strike 2 - two week suspension
Strike 3 - one month suspension
Strike 4 - permanent ban

Addition to moderation policies:

Graphic banners for non-CCG promotional entities are not permitted in signature lines.

Political Posts Not Welcome

No Appeals Process for Suspensions, and Bannings: In order to maintain a vibrant, safe and fun place for discussion, we do sometimes have to suspend or ban a member. These moderator actions are taken after careful consideration and our best efforts to conform to our stated policy and practices described here. We do acknowledge that board moderation is a human process, and disagreements are natural. In order to moderate effectively and efficiently, as a matter of policy, we do not accept appeals to rescind or otherwise lessen the severity of a suspension or banning. We may occasionally make changes to our own actions due to an internal review process, but the actions will not be open to direct discussion with the moderators. Generally these moderation actions ARE FINAL in order to avoid any sense of inconsistency in follow up.

Locked Threads: Message board moderators will occasionally lock threads when a discussion has been rehashed ad nauseam or, more often, when the quality of discussion has degraded to bickering, infighting or worse. When a thread is locked, no more posts can be added to that thread. Members are requested to not repost the discussion in a new thread. Disregarding this request is grounds for a strike and, at minimum, a two week suspension.

Member posted imagery on the boards

Any images posted on the boards either in threads or as a part of signatures are going to be generally reviewed with this standard in mind.

1. If it implies a realistic vision of a sexual act, it's out. Yes. It's out - regardless of whether you could interpret the rest of the shot as being on a treadmill.

2. If it involves human poses, "camera" angles, animations or close ups that are prurient in nature, it's out. Yes, much like the supreme court, we believe that you know prurient when you see it. We also do not believe that the membership cannot tell the difference - which makes you responsible in our eyes with no recourse to ignorance of misinterpretation. There is a difference between a lurid photo a woman in a bikini and simply seeing a woman in a bikini on the beach. Photo and video have an ability to convey specific interests and mental states by technique that are not inherent in a scene, but are instead encouraged and emphasized by the "editor".

Given that this is a collecting forum, some leeway for actual comic imagery is provided - more so than non-comic related imagery. However, note that there are many comics that are quite explicit and aren't allowed to be posted here either. See #1 above.

Violations of the above can and will result in strikes.

Decisions will be made on one simple basis - is the imagery offensive to a reasonable percentage of collectors in the context of a collecting message board. If the answer is yes then we're likely to kick it out.

If you're not sure of the image, I'd skip it.

Real and graphic depictions of extreme violence, actual dead bodies, etc. (if it didn't seem like common sense to you to begin with) are also OUT. For example, a close up of gaddafi dead. No. For all kinds of reasons, no.

Introducing the new and exciting:

Wrist Slap - two day suspension

Wrist slaps will be given for any overly contentious posting and/or pattern of posting where a strike seems too severe. The intended purpose is to help make it very clear BEFORE things blow up entirely that we're on a bad trend. Wrist slaps may or may not be announced in the strike forum. I'm exploring whether it's better to let people adjust their attitudes privately or help the community to understand the standards by more publicly exposing it.

Wrist slaps don't stack and grow

As of right now, these do not accumulate directly to strikes. So it is not a given that you got a wrist slap and therefore the next step will be a strike. It may be another wrist slap. Note that strikes are not like that. If you have strike 1, the second strike will be a 2 week suspension. If you have wrist slap 1, the second wrist slap is still two days.

Wrist slaps are a warning - improvement is required

Common sense will tell you that if you are getting wrist slapped repeatedly and/or in close succession without "improvement", you will graduate to strikes instead - even if the pattern of posting doesn't get "worse". If wrist slaps don't work, then moderation escalates.

Wrist slaps are easier to get

Things that we might have previously not taken action on will likely get wrist slaps. i.e. This is not a way to be nicer about correcting what used to receive a strike. This is a way to target behaviors that build up to strike-worthy material and wrist-slap them away.

CCG provides its message boards as a service to the collecting community. Although we value an open forum where users can discuss issues that affect the hobby, we do not allow our message boards to be used to promote our competitors. We will pull any posts that violate this policy and may also choose to suspend or ban the poster.

This applies equally to signature lines, Private Messages, posts or any other mechanism on the CCG web sites. If you need to promote something that CCG already provides, please use your own resources elsewhere to do it.

An addition to moderation policy:

Using photographs of the real appearance of other members in memes or other photo editing is a violation of posting guidelines if the person whose photograph is used objects to the result - so don't do it unless you're sure that person will think it's ok.

Trolling is still trolling even if it's a picture.
